It looks like paradise, but is was not always like this. Read the book 'PAPILLON' or see the movie ( starring Steve McQueen )

Visit the space centre. They give free 3 hour tours of the site and show you the rockets about to be launched. If you´re lucky you´ll time it so you see a launch. Call the office for info. Tours start at 07:45 or 13:45.
The photo is the view of the actual mission control inside the visitors center.

We were not here for but a little while, kind of a business and pleasure combined type of thing. Meeting some of the 'space age' guys was a hoot, they are in a different world than me, and getting in on some of the 'action' is also neat. Met them in connection with an even earlier visit to Kennedy Space Center and one thing tied in with another, too complicated and boring to explain.

How best to put it. One satellite launch, successful, is always leaving you wanting another. But I would not say that I miss it, just glad to have experienced it. The countryside is very old, charming in its own right.

I frankly can see some possibilities for their developing a tourist site, that is what they are trying to do. Should they get on the cruise route, it will fall into place that much sooner. We shall see. They certainly do want this though, they see how the ABC Islands have gained an interest from tourism and the bucks that come with it.

Visit the Isles de Salut to see the infamous prison islands made famous by the book and later the movie, Pappillon. It´s a beautiful setting and you can stay in the old cells or the modern hotel on the island. If you do choose to experience the cells, take a good mozzie net and hammock for a comfortable stay. See photo.
