All the tourist buses here are made in Japan for Japanese - in other words, the seat pitch is somewhat cramped for the larger European frames!
The aircon is good though, but I'm not sure about the driving! We had two near misses and one hit on the way from the border to Georgetown.

As there wasn't enough room in the bus for us and the luggage, our bags travelled seperately in a truck. It is a good idea to place as much of your stuff in the luggage truck as possible, as even hand luggage takes up fat too much room in an already cramped bus!

Supported on pontoons, the Demerara bridge has several section, one which is higher to allow taller ships to pass under, and two sections which retract to allow very large ships to go through.
The Demerara Harbour Bridge was commissioned on July 2, 1978 by then Prime Minister Forbes Burnham. Construction of the bridge began on the 29th May 1976 and was completed in June 1978, 25 months later. The total cost of the Demerara Harbour Bridge was $37, 800, 000.
The bridge is 6074 feet and 24 feet wide and carries two traffic lanes. At the time it was built, it was the longest of its kind in the world. It is now the fifth longest.

Taxis are pushy, with all drivers, porters and friends trying to hustle you into them. Posted rate is 4000 GYD (about $20US).
There are no signs for minibuses, but when you exit the airport customs, walk to the right all the way down to the end of the airport sidewalk.
Wait for a #42 bus.
They will take you to Stabroek Market in Georgetown center.
Cost is 800 GYD (about $4US). One-way trip takes about 1hour by taxi and up to 1.5 hours by minivan.

The ferry crossing the border from Southdrain to Moleson Creek has changed its schedual in April 2011. The boat is leaving every day at 9.00 AM and 13.00 PM. To make sure you get on the boat they expect you to be there between 6.30 and 8.00 AM or 10.30-12.00 AM. After this they will close the gate. From New-Nickerie to Southdrain is only 30 minutes drive, the road has improved extremely last year. (32 km)

Pretty much all of central Georgetown is walkable, but if it's nighttime or you are just too hot to take another step, cabs are ubiquitous and very cheap. There are yellow taxis all over the place, plus unmarked cabs that you can call for. A short ride will be about G$200 (USD 1), and I paid G$400 (USD 2) for a 10-minute ride to a restaurant in Section M, too far to walk from the center of town.
