Brasil Churrascaria & Pizzaria: All you can eat!

by Aafia

This was my first experience in a Brazilian steakhouse. Churasco is the Brazilian way of barbecuing using a rotisserie. Servers continuously come to the table to offer pieces of freshly barbecued meat and fish speared on long skewers. Some of the meats were beef, chicken, pork and sausages. Besides all the meats, there was quite an array of salads, rice and potatoes. We started the evening off with Caipirinhas, the traditional Brazilian drink. We supplied our own wine as the restaurant doesn't carry any. This is a very relaxed restaurant with a fun atmosphere. Filet mignon - melts mouth

I didn't eat out much, mostly home cooked meals. After enjoying your tasty laba, go to the zoo and check out what you just ate. I wouldn't say it was very tasty, most rodents aren't. Laba, you must try the laba.

The Bottle Restaurantin Cara LodgeWell, they have all these old bottles on shelves so hence the name. The service is friendly and the food European in influence. There are only a handful of good restaurants in Georgetown so this place is a real gem. Beef Wellington, tasty and not hard on the wallet.

Back then, Guyana was little known for tourists, therefore, restaurants were few. I ate mostly with family and friends. Back in the 70's, our Canadian dollar was worth 4 Guyanese dollars. Some things were expensive, like cars. My hired cars got me back and forth but that was all. The local cuisine consisted of fish, chicken and beef.Since my friends were of Indian descent, the meals were curry based. Was the food good? I gained 8 kilos (15 pounds) in 15 days. I think the food was great!

Many Coal Pot, and Hack's Halal both in the middle of town. Demico Steak House was good but the standard of the food has dropped in the last few years. German's hotel makes the best soup. Open till late and cheap.Demico Steak House has a great roof Garden setting, and very fair prices, although the service is slow as your food is cook when you place your order. Drink the best beer while you wait..BANKS local, or mix with the gold miners. Coal Pot is a Buffet style but only open at lunch times, so be quick. Good prices. Hack's Halal is good for quick service, a good setting and cheap. The national dish, Pepper Pot. A hot spicey meat stew, made with cassava extract, after the poison has been removed. Much sought after. Any cuury, or fish dish. German's Soups have been the best for years, and kind on the pocket.
