Sukhram's: Great hospitality
A hardware store on the forecourt of a filling station. David's padlock having broken in Paramaribo, he was in desperate need of a new one. Knowing that we may not have the opportunity at a later stage, we felt our luck was in. Not having had a chance to change any money yet, having just been in the country an hour or so, we offered the sales lady US$ for the padlock. She did not know how to work this out in the local currency, so she refused to accept any payment for the lock. Even when Paul, our Guyanese guide, came with the correct money in lcaol currency, would she accept payment for it! Such kindness from a complete stranger!
