During your visit to Georgetown there are a number of interesting sights that should not be missed: the most famous being St. George's Cathedral. The Cathedral is one of the world's tallest free standing wooden buildings and was consecrated on 1892. Other historic buildings along this promenade are the Town Hall, a splendid example of Gothic architecture, and further along are the Victoria Law Courts and St. Andrews Kirk. A historic lighthouse, just when it was built, I cannot tell you. It is difficult to take a picture of this kind of structure as there are no good vantage points. Suppose we could have gotten one off the ship but simply did not remember. We were also on early dinner seating. Rush, rush.

For Georgetwon, this is THE STAEBROOK MARKET the kind of place which has everything and is the place to go. This market provides a good deal of entertainment and is a study in people watching. The variety of goods is staggering, a real experience. It is a shame that we were having to rush from spot to spot, one loses something in having to do so.

Georgetown Main Street. Don't look too closely, street maintenance does not seem to be very high on their priority lists. In fact, there is very little in the way of paved roads in Guyana. This is typical of small countries that gain independence, once they have it, they really don't seem to follow the standards formerly in place. Steadily, a slow and sometimes not so gradual decay begins to take place. But who am I to take shots, we see this happening in the good old USA big time. Our urban decay is accelerating at an alarming pace.
