While it might look like a residence from the outside, the small red brick house has two small patio tables on the outside. They have no posted menu, so just ask what they are serving for the day. Quality is good, quantity is good, and price is cheap!

Favorite Dish: I had stewed beef, rice (1/2 order) and juice for 400 GUY.

Alternative to Intraserv, you can take the minibuses (bus #94). You need to book these in advance so you are guaranteed a seat. Advantages of this over Intraserv are that they are cheaper (10000 GYD compared to 12000), they are a bit faster (maybe 3 hours faster), and they are offered everyday. Disadvantages are that they do not have as much room (leg room for tall westerners will be limited) and due to going faster, they tend to bounce and swerve a lot more than the big bus. If you don't get seasick and/or like roller coasters, this is not a problem.

Two such contacts for minivan are:
T&M restaurant and transport service (tel. 671-7777) in Lethem. Bus leaves at 6:30pm and must be at T&M 1hr before. (T&M's has decent food for 1200. But they also have a free shower!)
P&A ice cream and transport service (tel. 225-5058) at 75 Church St, Georgetown.

*all traffic (including Intraserv and minibuses) cannot pass through the Iwokrama Forest during the night time. Therefore, departures from origin are schedule to arrive at the forest gates at/near opening hours. The southern gate (near Annai) opens at 4:30am. The northern gate (toll ferry over the Essequibo River) opens at 6:00am.

Intraserv bus between Georgetown and Lethem.
    one-way is 12000 GYD
free baggage allowance is 50lbs. (~70 GYD / lb additional).
    Georgetown reservations tel 226-0650
    Lethem reservations tel 772-2202

Tickets, reservations and boarding in Georgetown can be done at "Jerry's Sweet 16" eatery, located on Waterloo St. (tel 227-5701), just south of Middle Street.
Tickets, reservations and boarding in Lethem can be done at the southeast corner of the airport (between Brazilian restaurant and Don & Shirley's Shop).
Departures from Georgetown are 9pm on Tue/Thur/Sun.
Departures from Lethem are 9pm Mon/Wed/Fri.
Must be at bus by 7:30 for check-in procedures or you may forfeit your seat.
Journey will be rough and may take 16~19 hours, so expect to arrive ~3pm next day.
There will be ~4 police stops along the way, so have your passport available.
Drop offs can be at Linden, Annai, Iwokrama, Lethem, Georgetown or anywhere in between. Do not expect large discount if you go partial distances because you are basically paying for the seat of the entire route.

Favorite thing: The general store has the bare essentials, but not the best selection. However, if you meet Shirley herself, she is a friendly and very helpful person. Don runs the hardware store, Shirley runs the general store, and her son Jason runs the internet cafe next door. However, there are other assistants and family that help run the place.
They can help arrange transport, help with directions and generally speaking, get you pointed in the right direction.

Don & Shirley's is located on the southeast corner of the airport, immediately next to the Intraserv Bus stop.
