Lido Bar is not a fancy eating place, but it is a local landmark. Lots of locals come here frequently since the food is good, the service is decent and the prices are reasonable. This is not a while linen restaurant, but rather more of a diner inside or a sidewalk patio with plastic tables.
Favorite Dish: Everything on the menu is good, but one thing that is quite famous is the Caldo de Pescado (fish soup). It is not made from the local surubi, but it is rich in flavor, thick in consistency and very satisfying.
I walked by this place a few times while exploring the city and noticed that it was always busy during the lunch hours. As I was walking in to investigate it, some friendly locals were coming out and gave it two thumbs up.
It is not the fanciest restaurant in town, but it is good quality and cheap. The restaurant is simple enough in that it is a self-service buffet. If you get a single plate the cost is 10,000 (~$2.5US), if your plate overflows the sides or has a cut or meat is is 13,000 (~$4US).
There is ample seating for a small army. Most of the dining area is open to the ambient air, but upstairs there is a smaller area with air conditioning.
Favorite Dish: Everything was good, the salads were fresh, vegetables crisp and the meat was tender.
OK, this place is not in the center, so you either need to take a bus or have some friends take you. But if you like gelato it is worth it.
They do serve a full menu of sandwiches and other plates, but honestly the quality and service of those is not worth it. If you don't like gelato, don't come here. And secondly, if you hear that Fredo's ice cream is better, then they don't know the difference between gelato styles and ice cream (in Spanish they only have "Heladeria" so cannot differentiate), and are only telling you what is cheaper (but only by a few pennies).
Favorite Dish: The selection has some ~30 flavors, all of which are rich. Between us, we sampled a lot of them. I'm partial to their dulce de leche especial and the black forest. But the cheesecake and fruit flavors were good too.
Bolsi was recommended to me by some local friends, but since they were kind enough to offer their company, we diner together. The restaurant appears to be somewhat elegant, with linens and wine glasses, but the place was not pretentious or posh in any means.
People coming here were dressed in anything from shorts and sandals to suits and dresses. The staff was very polite, and although they did not speak anything but Spanish, they do have English menus. The restaurant is located near the geographic center of downtown, near some popular bars and hotels, so would not be too far for most people.
And it is one of the few places open 24-hours a day, so no matter when your hunger hits or when your plane arrives, you can get a decent meal.
Favorite Dish: All of the steaks were delicious. The lomito was very tender. The fish (surubi) is very good, but may be the priciest thing on the menu. Right next door is an affiliated bakery and delicatessen, so desserts are also well worth it.
fabulous pizza place with 3 locations in the city I believe. I am only familiar with the one on España casi Pitiantuta, but I know there is another on the corner of Ayolas y B. Constante. The prices are good, a personal pizza will cost between 10-15,000. They also deliver!!

This is like Paraguay’s McDonalds, and is located all over the country. It began 10 years ago with a young guy selling hotdogs from a cart on the street and grew from there. The food is not bad, and is a good option for delivery.

Buffet style restaurant where waiters come to your table with various types of meat, allowing you to choose what you want. I believe the full buffet costs 35-40,000 (drinks separate) and the food is quite good.
Located on San Martin between España and Mca. Lopez.
Nice Mexican restaurant with good food. Prices vary, however a regular meal will be over 25,000 guaranies. It is sometimes visited by a local Mariachi band. I believe it is located at Morra and Guido Spano (nearest large intersection: Mcal. Lopez y San Martín).
Good Chinese restaurant offering a lunch buffet for 30 or 35,000 where you can choose from various dishes or you can prepare your own dish choosing from a selection of sauces and raw ingredients and then pass it on to one of the chefs to fry it up right in front of you. The desserts aren’t so great, but the food is. They also deliver!

I’ve never eaten at this restaurant. It has recently opened, and I am told it’s good. Their promotional flyer invites you to try, taste and enjoy yourself. They have more than 30 types of sushi and various sections (boxes, Japanese vip, bar, restaurant, and pub. Opened Monday to Thursday, 8:00pm to 1:00am; Friday and Saturday, 8:00pm – 3:00am.

Interesting café with books to buy and books to browse. But menu items are quite pricey. A nice place to stop in at if you’re down town. Located on calle Palma between Mexico y Caballero.
Café, bar and restaurant. Monday is live jazz. Nice atmosphere.

In a great location opposite the Pantheon on Plaza de los Heroes, the Lido Bar is something of an institution in Asuncion. It's popular with both locals and the few gringos that visit the capital. Prices are good, service is mostly friendly and the food, on a good day is excellent, though occasionally can be poor.
We visited Lido 3 times during our time in the city, and on 2 out of the 3 times we were very pleased with the food. It's a good place to try Surubi, the local fish speciality which is usually the most expensive dish in Paraguayan restaurants. There is a small terrace out front overlooking the square, though for fast service you're better off sitting around the bar.
Like everywhere in Asuncion, an armed security man stands guard at the door, so we were always careful to include a tip!
This is less of a restaurant and more of an coffee shop and lounge. The staff was very polite and a bit more attentive than many other places, but they were still rather relaxed.
There are some tables with love lounge style couches out on a covered patio if the weather and mosquitoes are favorable. Otherwise, there are several tables inside. Since it is a coffee shop where people gather in the mornings, afternoons and in groups, they offer WiFi and relaxed seating.
Favorite Dish: They specialize more in drinks (coffees, juices, etc.) but also serve alcohol. The breakfast sandwiches (see the photo) are large and good. Also are the calzones and just about every dessert you can find. If you don't trust the menu, get up and look in the display windows.
A friend took me here to enjoy some decent Italian and I must say, it lived up to the reputation. OK, the food was good, but the service was slightly ho-hum. Even after asking who had what, the server didn't know the menu items well enough and gave the wrong plates to the wrong people. But laughing that off, at least the kitchen staff knew how to make everything.
The tables are decorated with white linens and wine glasses. There can be a line of people, but you should not have to wait long.
Favorite Dish: The lasagna is good, as is the pasta in general. The beer and wine list is okay, but nothing extraordinary.
In the city center, in front of the Vice president building, Bar@ka is a Bar / Restaurant doing buffet for lunch, and you've also have pasta, pizza and other stuff on the Menu.
Nice 42" flat Plasma TV and sound system with international channels, perfect to watch Paraguayan and English football league match with a good cold beer on the leather sofa. For the singers, they also do Karaoke.
There is also wifi connection for free. Perfect place for business men looking for some rest and a good cup of wine or beer.
Favorite Dish: The meat is great, the pasta and pizza are very good too, all is generally very good and everything is fresh. The buffet change all the days and there is sometimes fish included in the buffet. You've got of course the air-conditioning. And the waiters and very friendly.
