Favorite thing: I met some wonderful people and saw a different way of life very different from America. It is about family, friends and living life;a comfortable life, not about how many cars or tvs you have. Interactions with family and friends bring a strong bond .
Fondest memory: My best memory, strange enough, is the children. They are amazing...what they have to endure just to get to school is amazing. They take public transpertation or walk to get to school they can walk 5 to 15 miles just to get to school. ....I have a deep respect for the people.
Favorite thing: Life in Asuncion is similar to most in South America in that there are a lot of protests. I didn't always know what the cause of the protest was. But I could always hear when they were coming! As a precaution it is best to keep your distance, you never know what can happen from angry oppressed people.
Fondest memory: The history of Paraguay is very related to the history of my country (Uruguay); for me it was really touching the visit to several historical places in Asuncion, and especially Artigas' land, the place where our national hero spent his last days and died.
Big trees and kind people
Favorite thing: I spent only two days in Asuncion, but I was pleasurably surprised by this city: I found it very picturesque, with a lush vegetation everywheren and very friendly people.
Estuve solamente dos días en Asunción, pero fui gratamente sorprendida por esta ciudad: la encontré muy pintoresca, con una vegetación exuberante por todas partes y gente verdaderamente amable.
Fondest memory: The permanent heat is only surpassed by the "human heat"!
El calor permanente es solamente superado por el calor humano!
The train station
Favorite thing: The Train station is in the downtown area and is a quite an old building (not sure what year). Inside you will find a old train engine and a small museum. If you want to go for train ride you are out of luck, Paraguay has been without train service for some time now.
Favorite thing: Government building in downtown Asuncion. If you look closely you can see cannon marks on the walls from protests of the past not yet repaired.
