    Spider Lace

by JohnByron Updated Aug 27, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This was on a saturday in Asuncion, downtown. They have a Festival sort of thing going on. Get your shopping done before noon on Saturday becasue all the shops close until monday downtown. Some of the bigger stores stay open but for the most part everythings is closed.

What to buy: Spider lace is very beautiful; it is hand made and comes in different colors. I bought some from my mom, they make shirts and blouses and tie's. I bought from mom and pop venders. I did not see alot of major retail type stores other than when i went to the mall.

What to pay: You can pay anywhere from 6 USD to 25 USD depending on what your buying and the detail of the item

Shopping Mariscol Lopez: Really Classy Malls in the Burbs

    by reon80 Written Jun 16, 2005

This is a really nice American-style shopping mall in the suburb of Villa Mora, right near the house where I stayed. It´s right on the main street of Mariscol Lopez and I had a great time wandering around there when I needed a break from the streets (plus I just love shopping). You can get film developed, see movies, etc...and its got a great cheap food court:)

Secretaría Nacional de Turismo: The sound of the harp

    by andal13 Updated Apr 22, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I was walking down Palma street when I hear typical Paraguayan music; the sounds of a harp were filling the air. I approached and met the Secretaryship of Tourism, a very attractive building where I found not only tourist information but typical dances and stuff.

What to buy: All kind of handcrafts... Especially ñandutí (a beautiful lacework) and embrodery.

Todo tipo de artesanías... Especialmente ñandutí y bordados.

    Street shopping

In Asuncion is is possible to buy a wide variety of things in the streets. You may have to inspect your purchases to look for what level of quality it is. But generally the price is always right. Fresh fruit can be a particularly good bargin. Here is a mandarin orange vender who is selling bags for 2500 gs. Just over $.50 Can for a huge bag.....I sure miss the fresh tropical fruit from Paraguay.
