Safety Tips in Asuncion (Departamento)

This was not in Asuncion, but comming back from Villarrica to Asuncion. I had the car washed, it was very dirty from the trip in the mountains, and so it was nice and polished, so i guess the cop thought he had a rich one. There are check points on the roads for vechicles and the cops wave you over if they want you to stop, so i pulled over and he asked for my registration, he told me this was the wrong reg. and told me to go back and buy a new registration from villarrica or i could pay him 186,000 G about $50 from him well villarrica was about 50 mins back and i knew he just wanted a bribe; me being an american in the middle of nowhere with 3 para military type armed police officers, decided to pay him and keep going. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME IN MY WHOLE TRIP THAT I FELT UNSAFE!!! So do not let this scare you from going. Just when traveling dont keep all your converted money in your wallet hide it in the car somehwere like i did so they dont ask for more.
