After 2 months in Asuncion, I have found only 2 places to find books in english. The bookstores in 2 of the larger malls, Shopping Del Sol and Mariscal Lopez, carry some selction of english titles. Expect to pay more than the north american price (around 100,000 guaranis-$20 US for a paperback). My best advice: if you are a reader, and prefer to read in english, make sure you bring books with you!

Somewhat close to the port area, lies the Recova neighborhood where a multitude of leather goods and other crafts can be found at incredible prices. Most of them are rough and picturesque in nature. I personally love them. Finer stores carry more traditional fine leather and the prices are also very convenient
What to buy: Purses, knapsacks, handbagsfolders, place-mats, wallets, chairs, bean bags, belts
What to pay: Women leather purse: $10 US
Leather knapsack: $20
Men leather wallet: $4
