I saw some restaurants in Chivay, but the dinner in this nice restaurant was included in my tour. It was a great buffet dinner of peruvian food, also some dances for tourists.

gonzo747 Says: Mc Elroy is an Irish pub in Chivay. As any irish pub it's not the cheapest place to drink but very cozy. There is a pool table. Beware of drinking on this altitude it might hit you a bit faster then normal, it's worth trying though.

When in Chivay, which you might have to spend a night in if you're travelling to see the Colca canyon, you might want to get some extra clothes/hats/gloves. Not only does it get freezing at night but you can also pick things up for good prices.

Being located at a height of about 3700 meters, the altitude here can alter the effects of alcohol, making it more potent. Be careful and don't drink to excess if you drink at all. This isn't the place to prove your alcohol tolerance.

Luggage and bags: I visited Chivay during the easter holidays, and it was very cold at night (we had an electric heather in our room), so bring warm clothes even when is not winter time.

Our first stop in the Colca region was in Chivay. A nice town. Also went to the nearby hotsprings.
Chivay is at tha Colca Valley, and the main entrance to the Colca Canyon. Tha city have simple hotels and hostals and restaurants, and thermal fountain, with pools.
