Las apachetas son montículos de piedras, a manera de altar, erigido en honor a la PACHA MAMA. Ante la apacheta los indios dejan sus ofrendas y piden que se aparten las desgracias (chiknis) de su camino y salud para seguir viaje. Los Collaguas , de origen Aymara , se consideraban guerreros e hijos del volcán Callahuanta y se caracterizaron en la antigüedad por la forma aguzada de sus cabezas, las cuales deformaban a los niños al nacer para respetar la forma del volcán del que provenían. Los cabanas , de origen quechua , procedían de las profundidades del nevado Hualca Hualca y deformaban también los cráneos de sus recién nacidos pero de forma aplastada para imitar la forma achatada de el volcán. Hoy en día tan sólo se diferencian por sus sombreros ya que las Collaguas los usan blancos de paja con una cinta bordada alrededor y flores a los costados; 2 flores para las mujeres solteras, una para las casadas y una flor negra para las viudas. Las Cabanas los usan de lana y totalmente bordados con figuras de la flora y fauna local, una estrella y el sol. The Colaguas of Aymara origin were cosidered as warriors , sons of the Callahuanta volcanoe and they where recognized in the old days by the elongated shape of their heads , that they got deformating the childrens heads as they were born to keep the shape of the volcanoe were they come.
