Chincheros Church

Right on top the Inca ruins lies a beautiful church build by the Spaniards. The interiors are breathless, taking in many features of the region as well as the deep Spanish roots. Take your time to apreciate the inside, as well as the ruins in the outside.

You can walk around the square and the locals are waiting for you to pass by with their crafts for sale. There is views over the surrounding mountains, views on the Inca religious site and take a peek on the surrounding streets.

Like in any touristy site, the locals are present to sell you everything you ever wanted: Jewellery, weaved articles, clothing, pottery and everything in between. Bartering is the rule and approach them only if interested, otherwise they will be after you even from your bus seat!!!

uncooperating llama

You'll have chances elsewhere also, but this is our first opportunity to take picture with the llama. This one was not very cooperative, but we managed to take a few good picture. We gave the woman s/2 for the photo-op.

There was amusician there selling flutes and pan pipes. He can drum up his El Condor Pasa. He offered me to put pn his costume also, I regret passing up the opportunity. But his marketing skill is as good as his musicianship, we ended up buying this instrument and a pan pipe from him.

Their corn has giant kernels! But don't expect them to taste like the juicy sweat corn that we're used to. They tasted a little bit dry, chewy and starchy. Somtimes they also give you a slice of cheese and some sauce with it.

The "boleto turistico" allows you to visit the church, but it's Chinchero's market that you have to come to visit, actually. A very typical one...

We didn't go on the market day, but some of the vendors were there. It was more intimate than Pisac.

There is a church and a small museum with white-washed walls and red tiled roofs. I like the insde of the church. It was dark inside and photo was not allowed.
