  • The peruvian airline Aero Continente (www.aerocontinente.com) operates 3 flights per day from Lima to Cusco and vice versa. Cusco airport is also serviced by Lan Peru and TACA, both of which run Lima - Cusco flights daily.

Average ticket price for a rt ticket from lima to cusco is about $100 and takes about 1 hr each way.

Flights tend to be overbooked or sold out, so make your reservations well in advance.

From Puerto Maldonado or from Lima, the easiest way to reach Cusco is by plane.
I took both routes and always with my favourite airline company (LAN Peru).

I won't reccomande you the other line "Aerocontinente" as I had bad experiences with them, as they lost twice my luggages!!!! It could be a case...yes...nut just one time! I heard other people that had my same experience...so, if you can choose the LAN.

The flight from Lima costs beetween 30USD and 40USD (40 mins) and the flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco costs you beetween USD 40 and USD 45 (50mins).

You can buy a ticket in any agency, but before to choose, check some of them, as there could be the possibility to caugh some discounts!

I flew from La Paz (Bolivia) from Cusco (Peru) with LAB (Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano). It is a short fly (I do not remember exactly... ) but the landscapes seen from the air are amazing. The picture shows lake Titicaca

I didnt want to spend any time in Lima, so I took the 6:00 a.m. flight from Lima to Cusco after arrving in Peru at 1:00 the same morning.
The airline of the plane I took was called Tans, charged US$70 for an one-way ticket.

If you decide to go the cheaper route by taking the bus, I dont want to fully knock it because I havent tried it, but its 23hrs starting from sea level going to 10,500 ft. With that said I have been on a bus going through wild tall mountains on thin roads not a lot of fun.

When I got to Lima, I needed to be in Cusco 3 days later, I simply bought flight, you dont need advanced reservation they have many flights going daily. Ticket after taxes was about $200, flight is about an hour or less, and I flew with AeroCondor

Aerocondor is a Peruvian domestic air carrier that offers daily flights to Cusco. They have regular sales and if you are lucky enough to get one of these deals, then your Cusco adventure may be for less than what you expected. Regular one way rates are $75-125. I paid $88 for my OW ticket to Cusco including taxes.

Note: Aerocondor is no longer in operation as of June 2008.

Though Cusco is the main tourist city in Peru, buses there from the capital are long and uncomfortable affairs. We opted for a plane to save time. It was around $60 one way from Lima to Cusco. Taxis are a cheap way to get around town if you get lost or are tired but it is a small town so walking is the best way to experience the timeless air of the backstreets.

The plane from Lima to Cuzco is spectacular! Make sure you have a window seat. I was on the left side of the plane, so if you can, request it!

At first you see the cordilliera Blanca, the Andes and soon enough if you are lucky, the pilot will find the valley Cuzco is in and also find the air strip. Then you will pass a ledge that you will see quite clearly underneath you... I hope that you don't see people on it since you'd be too close. Then the pilot will perform a 180 degree and you will see the valley real well. If you are the faint at heart type, please sit in the alley...

The descent into Cuzco is just spectacular, just have your cameras ready! You have now just completed the first city tour, all for the same price than the airfare!

After our visit to La Paz we flew to El Cusco by Lloyd Aereo Boliviano again, a delightful flight above the peaks of the amazing mountains of Los Andes.
A short flight of 55 minutes departing from La Paz, even you can get a combination coming from Buenos Aires, just remember that flights from La Paz to El Cusco departs only thursdays and saturdays at 11:10 a.m. (flight # 921)

Most tourist arrive to Cuzco by plane from Lima. It is a small airport, and while you wait for the lugagge you will find many stalls offering info about hotels, agencies...
Most of the flights land and leave early in the morning. There are departure taxes (10 USD international, 3,5USD national).
As far as I know there is no bus to the city center, so your only option might be a taxi (about 5 soles, but bargain!). If you reserve an Inca Trail or a hotel, you can tell them to pick you up at the airport too, they did it for free to me.
