Company of Jesus Church, Cusco

its baroque facade,one of the nicest through peru...
it's not a mere chance!
built one century after the cathedral:jesuits,proud,arrogant and eager for political and religious power,wanted to surpass the cathedral facade....

This magnificent baroque church rivals La Catedral as Cusco's most ornate and when flood lit at night is perhaps more so. Seems hard to get into though admission is supposed to be free, I had someone nearly chase me out of the entrance when I refused a "voluntary" donation.

This cathedral is on southeast side of the Plaza De Armas. This church was built by the Jesuits in 1571.

built in 1650 on the site of a inca palace called amarucancha....
on its right,baroque facade of the university....former a jesuit college.
