    Extras

by SirRichard Written May 17, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Apart from the money you pay for the trail you may want to have:
    - Sleeping bag (10 USD)
    - An extra porter. That is a porter to carry your stuff. I had a half porter for 35USD.

What to buy: "A porter? Why? I can carry my rucksack" OK, tough guy, you repeat me that after 3 hours climbing endless steps!!!
Believe me, if there is something I don't regret about my Inca Trail is having paid a half extra porter to carry my 9 kgs heavy rucksack. I wouldn't have made it to the top without that, no matter how much you have to pay take an extra porter, THAT makes the difference between suffering the trail or enjoying it!

    Where and how to book

by SirRichard Written May 17, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you want to do the Inca Trail, you have to book in advance, at least 2 months before, as the entrance to the Park is restricted, and you have to do it in a group.
The best way is to look at several Cuzco agencies in internet. Here are the most famous:

What to buy: They offer different dyas to start, different menus... but roughly they are very similar. Expect to pay between 250-320 USD for the 4 days / 3 nights trail including tickets, guide, meals and tents.

What to pay: When you decide which agency, write them a mail, fill up a form and send here (money transfer) about 100 USD. Then you have a reservation. You will have to be 2-3 days before the trail begins in Cuzco, pay the rest of the money and have a previous evening meeting for the details of the trekking.

Along the trail there are several drinks and snacks stops. Not really shops and not really cheap but here you can find basic drinks, chocolate, Gatorade...
