Main Gate, Machu Picchu
Immediately after passing through the entrance gate and climbing a few steps, you´ll already have the best view of Machu Picchu. Check these wonderful pictures!!!
I have pictures taken from Putucusi Peak (in Aguas Calientes) and from Huayna Picchu (the peak next to the citadel that can be seen in this picture), but in my humble opinion this is the best view!!! Simply unforgettable!!!
The original entrance to the complex is on the southwestern side of the citadel at the end of the Inca Trail, a short walk away from "Intipunko " (Sun Gate), the ancient final check point to Machu Picchu.
Well well well... after 5 hours in a plane from São Paulo to Lima, 1 hour from Lima to Cusco, 4 hours in a train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and 20 minutes in the bus... here we are: MACHU PICCHU, the lost city of the incas, rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911!!!
This is the entrance to the ruins. The ticket must be bought in Aguas Calientes (ask anywhere in the city and they will gently inform you the exact place) or you won´t be able to enter the site. This is a very important tip!!!
The main entrance to the city. This once had a mobile stone gate that blocked the gate in times of danger.
The present entrance on the southeastern side leads to the agricultural section. The entrance basically names as Viviendas de los Gyardianes.
As you walk,in anticipation, through the main entrance this is the first thing you`ll see.
Well,besides me standing there !!!!!
At the bus stop to Machu Picchu there is a Hotel, gift shop, bathroom and package check for a fee. Also some benches with shade to eat. Private guides and vendors.
