We had a late lunch at the El Huacatay restaurant. It was recommended to us by our taxi driver, who drove us around ‘the Sacred Valley’.
The restaurant is located a few blocks from the main square - in a narrow dusty side street, where absolutely nothing happened – besides a few sleepy dogs lying around… But don’t get fooled, it is a great restaurant!
El Huacatay has tables outside in the nice garden and tables inside the dining room. It was very hot in the afternoon sun and we chose a table inside. The dining room only has a few tables and the restaurant was almost full – even it was in the afternoon. Reservations are recommended if you want to have dinner at the restaurant.
The food is local, but with elements of Mediterranean and Asian style and flavours. Really tasty – large portions and nicely presented. Very recommendable – BUT also quite expensive, according to Peruvian standards…

In Urubamba are many good pizza places. They make the pizza while you're watching, you get some garlic bread first and some spices to put on your pizza.
The next day we went to another pizza place. This one was good as well but I've forgotten the name.

The food here is wonderful, with an atmosphere to match. The cuisine mixes Peruvian ingredients with international recipes. We were all very happy with our experience here!

Urubamba, with a population of about 8,000, is the largest town in the Sacred Valley. It's not a major destination, but there are good hotels and restaurants here.
