Backpacker train to and from AC

About $70 r/t to and from Aguas calientes. Seats are comfortable enough, and the view is usually spectacular. I had a small woman from Ireland across from me, so it wasn't bad. If 2 tall people are opposite each other, it will be tight and there will be some knee-knocking. Next to me a guy from Canada and a guy from France in my 4-cube. We had some great conversation.

It took 4 hours getting to AC. They sell food from a cart at about 9am, a sandwich ran about 7soles($2), 3 sols for a soda.

My ticket was bought as part of the whole MP package in Cuzco.

riding from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes and back ...
for a visit to Macchu Picchu

the train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes and back.
The trip took more than 3 hours ..... and it goes very slowly, so that you can take pictures.
From Aguas Calientes we had to take a bus to reach the top for seeing Macchu Picchu, but it was worth to make the long trip. The places in the train were numbered and every person has his place on the train : the same seat in the morning as in the evening.

This town seems to be made of 3 things, restaurants(pizza!), craft stands(much less persistent than in Cuzco thankfully and more merchandise), and kids. I've never seen so many kids for such a small...

AguasCalientes exists mainly because it is the train and bus stop for Machu Picchu, and it serves the visitors. It is tucked into a small valley along the Vilcabamba River.
