Most of the friezes are restored, here are some examples of the details of the friezes with marine themes like fishes and pelicans.
Chan Chan was constructed by the Chimu around c850, and was the imperial capital until was conquered by the Incas and later by the Spaniards. Unless other Peruvian archaelogical sites it´s very close to the ocean.
Chan Chan was declared a world heritage site in 1986, and is specially threatened by the El Niño current, wich causes rains and flooding in the coast.
If you´re not in an organized tour you can reach the main entrance of Chan Chan by local buses called Combis. It´s very easy to catch one of this buses, they leave Trujillo (España and ejercito streets) every 15 minutes.
Fondest memory: The central part covers 6 km2 and consists of great complex with places for storages, pyramids and areas used for cultivating, using the humidity from the ground.
