Lima is generally a safe city,...
Lima is generally a safe city, but petty crime is common. Avoid carrying your passport, credit cards or large sums of cash if you can. Pickpockets are a real concern in the more common tourist areas, and you wouldn't want to lose anything valuable. Leave anything important behind when you go out.

Keep and eye on your stuff
Lima is made up to be an awfully dangerous place (at least that's what i was told before i went there) , but this doesn't have to be the case if you are careful and always keep an eye on your belongings. Beware of strangers aproaching to you, in some cases they just want to be friendly, but in others they are trying to distract you to rob you. JUST BE CAREFUL NOT PARANOID!

Don't wear flashy jewellry
Lima is not a safe city to roam as you want freely . Tourist police are visible but still you need to use caution . The city is ringed with huge shanty towns . Poverty is very real and extenive. We travellers represent wealth....so take heed and dress modestly , and leave expensive jewellery home.

Starbucks Theft
Make sure you keep your belongings within your possesion at all times, especially at tourist places like Starbucks. Starbucks is known for creating a laid-back environment and it is easy to let your guard down there but you shouldn't. I had my back stolen literally within 15 seconds of turning my back. I have also heard other similar stories about the starbuck throughout Larcomar. Lima seems to be generally safe city, but petty crime is rampant.

Don't Get Your Hair Cut for $4
OK, so I admit to being a compulsive hair cutter. I get bored and change my hair. Which is what happened our second to last day in Lima when I wandered by a sign that advertised haircuts for $4. I ended up with a MULLET WITH WINGS before I had him just chop it all off in shame. The moral of this story is don't get your hair cut at a dirt cheap salon by a dude that you can't communicate with.

B careful
Please take care when wandering around on your own, in central Lima, as some areas can be dangerous and pickpockets are daring
