Uniformed beauty
The presence of female police is noticeable. Peru has gone far ahead of its mentors in employing the gentler part of the population in this prestigious and dangerous work. At the same time, fashion and the sense for style, no matter what, are never neglected. The police ladies are well dressed in elegant uniforms and look around not only for potential hooligans but for the effects of their appearance as well.

Rules of the Road
There are a lot of warnings on this subject, and a good reason for it. Size matters! A big truck out ranks a car, and a car out ranks a pedestrian. I wouldn’t suggest driving here for the average person! If you are faint hearted, you may wish to close you eyes while riding in the taxi. Red lights appear to be an option, people turn left from the right lane, and right from the left lane. If there is a traffic jam, they may just go down the middle of the cars, making a two lane into a three lane. I’ve was even in a car that drove on the wrong side of the street for several blocks. The excessive blowing of horns and yelling at each other isn’t road rage, but local culture. The good news, the odds are you will get to your destination in one piece. While they do have the occasional fender benders, they don’t ever appear to have enough speed to have serious accidents.

Unless you're very familiar...
Unless you're very familiar with the city, DO NOT attempt to drive here! Drivers cut each other off all the time, nobody wears a seatbelt (some Peruvians don't even know how to use them!), one-way and stop signs are mere suggestions, and while people do generally adhere to stoplights, there are only a handful in this city of 8 million! If you aren't traveling with locals, rely on cabs to get anywhere you want. They're very cheap, and your driver will understand the frightening (and largely unwritten) driving rules! Be aware that some drivers might overcharge tourists because they know many of us are used to paying a lot more in our own countries. Keep this in mind and settle on the fare before you leave. Also, remember that the majority of Peruvians don't have much financially, so don't get all bent out of shape if you think you might be overcharged. You've got more money than your driver ever will.

Use common sense to avoid...
Use common sense to avoid flashing wads of money. people here are either rich or poor for the most part and it wouldn't be that smart to attract alot of attention.
