Although Lima and Miraflores is very safe today, there was a time in the early 1990's when political terrorists were very active. We probably would not have noticed this monument without our friend Flor de Maria. Its down one of the side streets off the main street that run through Miraflores. This monument or memorial is dedicated the victims of a terrorist bombing that took place at this exact location. I was glad she pointed it out to us. It one of those things you would miss without the knowledge of someone local.
The pyramid and ruins of the Wari tribe at Huaca Pucllana are fascinating the visit. There is a museum at the site, a guided tour, and several exhibits to see. We were able to climb to the top of the pyramids and took many photos. The tour takes a little over an hour and is the very worth the time. There is an admission charge to the park and the ruins.
When traveling I always enjoy finding lighthouses to photograph. There is a beautiful lighthouse on the cliffs of Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Faro La Marina lighthouse in Miraflores - Lima Peru is located right on the cliffs of Miraflores. Its just a short walk from Parque de Amor and Locamar shopping center.
The giant statue El Beso is the center piece of Parque del Amor. Its a giant statue of a couple in a romantic embrace that sets the theme for the park. It is the creation of artist Victor Delfin. If you in the park you can't miss it, its huge!
Parque del Amor is located on the cliffs of Miraflores and is very beautiful. It reminded me very much of Gaudi's Guell Park in Barcelona. It has a definate Gaudi inspiration with its beautiful mosaic walls and artwork. The park is built for lovers with lots of little seat, curves, and nook and crannies to spend time in. And the view of the Pacific from the park is also worth noting!
