Although Lima and Miraflores is very safe today, there was a time in the early 1990's when political terrorists were very active. We probably would not have noticed this monument without our friend Flor de Maria. Its down one of the side streets off the main street that run through Miraflores. This monument or memorial is dedicated the victims of a...more
The pyramid and ruins of the Wari tribe at Huaca Pucllana are fascinating the visit. There is a museum at the site, a guided tour, and several exhibits to see. We were able to climb to the top of the pyramids and took many photos. The tour takes a little over an hour and is the very worth the time. There is an admission charge to the park and the...more

A quaint little cafe just south of Parque Kennedy serving mostly natural foods. Good snacks, homemade desserts, fruit smoothies, and fruit salads. Not to mention good conversation with the owners Conseulo and Amilcar. They are a brother/sister duo and the resturaunt is named after their parents. Fruit salad with a bit of yogurt thrown in.more
I went to Aura and it was great! the club is large and classy, with places to sit and a huge (open- free drinks till 12) bar with a large neon Johnny Walker sign above it. Naturaly, red label is served during open bar nights.
Dress Code: Dress semi-casual. Unfortunately, the bouncers discriminate against pesants or Indian people. They are often told that there is a "private party" being held.
Locamar is located right on the cliffs of Miraflores. It is a huge shopping and entertainment complex. Here you will find lots of shops, restaurants, movies and other entertainment. The view from the cliffs at Locamar alone is worth the experience of walking through here. We had several meals here and many Pisco Sours.more
Peru is a very rich country, when it comes to resources. Gold and Silver are mined and cheaper in Peru than most other countries. If one wants silver for the home, for example a tea set, ect, they should head on over to La Paz. The best silver brands (and most expensive) are: Camuso, Del Pilar, San Antonio... Feel free to spend time in stores...more

We saw several fascinating Peruvian hairless dogs roaming the ruins at Huaca Pucllana. Our guide told us that the dogs live here at the site of the ruins and on good days will come out to visit the tourists. Lucikly we were there on a good day and got to see dogs.
Mark and I left Miraflores one afternoon and took a hike to Barranco, which is another suburb of Lima. Its not far from Miraflorese and is very beautiful. We walked around the cliffs, took photos, climbed down the road from the cliff to the beach and then walked along the beach. Lima is known for being overcast but having very little if any rain....more
I am a beer drinker. When I travel I love to sample the different local beers that are available. One of the first ones I tried in Lima was Cusquena. Its an excellent beer. Of course when in Peru the first drink you think of is the Pisco Sour, and I had my share of them. But don't forget to check out some of the local beers also. Some are...more
