One of the ruins in the middle of town - Miraflores.
You have guides, especially English - without guide you cannot get in anyway. People are very nice there.
And the place is very interesting. In the summer it is helpful to have water because it is very very hot and no place to hide from the sun.

If staying in Miraflores the safest way to travel to downtown Lima is by taxi. Catch a taxi from any of the major hotels in Miraflores. Do not take any valuables with you as downtown can be dangerous regarding pick pocketers.

The main square is very interesting to stroll around and the historical old part of Lima is wonderful.

The Larco Museum displays an excellent overview of Pre- Columbian History. Its lovely to visited as the building and gardens are gorgeous dating back to the 18th century and built over a 7th century pre-columbian pyramid.

Catch a taxi from Miraflores, it takes approx 15 minutes. Open Daily between 9am - 6pm.
