I recently spent 5 weeks in Cusco and enjoyed quite a few places for dancing and drinking. Mythology was my favorite. They offer free salsa lessons from 9-11 every night. On the weekends they have cover charges of 10 soles, but I always got out of it. Maybe because I'm a girl, or maybe because my host sister knows everybody there. I've also been to Mama Africa which is nice as well. Indigo is more like a bar/restaurant but they play good music and it's a good place to hang out and eat before going to a club.
I had a few roomates who loves a club called Roots, but it wasn't exactly my scene. If you like Bob Marley and dreadlocks though, then Roots is the place for you.
FYI....on weeknights alot of guys stand outside the clubs and try to hand you tickets. The tickets are for free drinks if you visit their club. It was a great way to go bar hopping and not have to pay for drinks. But I think they only drink they'll serve you is Cuba Libre (rum and coke with a lime) or Vodka and Sprite.

This is a great place located right inside of the main square of Cusco. At night this square really looks like El Dorado and for all we know, perhaps it is. So as that flavor savors inside of your mouth, might as well get some drinks to wash it down. Mama Africa is a great place for dancing, meeting locals, and other young backpackers and explorers like yourself. Entrance to this club is 18 and over so you can be sure that you are in accordance to local rules if you happen to get lucky with that Cusquenian of your dreams or that explorer from a different country. There is normally a small cover charge of five dollars which includes a free drink but if you know locals or are staying at a local hostel with connections, entrance is free.
Dress Code: For foreigners the dress code is quite lax but long pants and a nice shirt should do it for males. A nice outfit, not too classy but sexy yet tasteful for the women. A dress or a nice shirt and pants, night wear is usually good enough to get you in the door.

I´ve been to this club for the first time on our second night in Cusco. Italy had just won the World Cup and italians had flags over themselfes and were enthusiastically celebrating the title. The club was crowded, locals and backpackers were dancing to good music... the place was great!!! I´ve had an excellent time there!!!
But I´ve been there on the next day (Monday) and it was barely empty. Ok, it was a Monday night, but Mama Africa and Mythology both had a quite nice movement inside...
Entrance is free.

THE BEST CLUB IN CUSCO!!!
Just like Mama Africa, its a favourite club of both locals and backpackers. I think it was the most crowded club in the city. We´ve been there from Saturday to Monday nights and it was always good!!!
The DJ plays a mix of everything, from reggae and salsa to rock and pop music. Entrance is free.
THIS IS THE PLACE!!!
Dress Code: Laid back place. Dress anything that makes you feel comfortable.

A real nightlife only developed in Cusco when the Tourist arrived. Towards the seventies, they opened the first night places for them: the "Abraxas" and the "Hatuchay" both in the Main Square.
After some time the same people in Cusco, with the imagination encouraged by the stories going everywhere, decided to face the cold nights that had made them stay at home and realise that by night people are friendlier and it is easier for them to approach each other forgetting social, cultural and even languages differences.
We affirm that, in addition to the diverse attractions, Cusco can add to this list the intense, mad and cosmopolita nightlife with an original Andean touch. Enjoying its enchantments is a way of best knowing the Imperial City and compenetrate with its spirit. The following lines are the key you need to open the door and enter this world.
Music and Dances
Another good way of starting the night in Cusco is admiring the especial wealth and variety of the folklore of this region not only for its musical expressions but also for its dances. The traveler will have to choose between the "teatrines" (theatres) of some institutes that cultivate the folkloric art and an exclusive number of restaurants that offer this kind of shows.

This seemed to be the happening place. Since we went the night before the Inti Raymi festival, it was packed full of people. The entrance was 10 soles, which included a free drink , and I felt it was well worth it. The atmostphere was very fun. The music varied from popular music, hip hop to techno, dance music. I believe the Cusqueña beer was 6 soles.

This another very popular club in Cusco, recommended by most of tourist guidebooks.
Personally I didn´t like it. But the entrance is free so you can get in and check it out for yourself.

A: I still think that you should get to Machu Picchu first and work your way back, to help with the acclimatization to the altitude at Cusco.
