The Real Peru

by Lamanai

If you wish to visit the real Peru and meet the real Peruvians, go North. You will see Peru world out of the Machu Picchu hype dreamland. There is a real jewel of the Andes, Cajamarca, the town which has been so important for the history of the entire South-American continent. Relax in Atahualpa's bath and enjoy the quiet of a colonial town intact by touristic boom. Also, do not forget to visit the desert towns and their pre-inca localities in the NorthWest of the country. Missing Huascarán up in the mountains could be qualified as a sin :-)))Enjoy! Go North and you will not regret!

Best place to see the sleeping Indian (Chiguata)

by p4trizi4

Chiguata is a nice village in a green area just outside Arequipa. Great for half a day, or a one day walk. From Chiguata you also have the best view to the sleeping indian on the Pichu Pichu. (see photo)On sundays you can also visit the church built with sillar. It is quite nice. You can reach Chiguata for about 20 soles by taxi or for 1 sol by bus. The bus leaves from Av. Mariscal Castilla, but it is safer to go to Av. Jesus (zoologico). On the way back it will be difficult to take a taxi, but you can take the bus or a "colectivo" to the zoo and from there you can take a taxi for about 5 soles to the center.

Machu : Arrive before 5.15 AM - Arrivez avant 5.15

by Maillekeul

You will probably be the first on the site and will enjoy, if lucky, the sunrise over the Machu Picchu... Generally, if you do the Inka Trail, you will arrive a lot later - that means that the only way to arrive at that time is going to the Machu from Aguas Calientes (begin walking at 3.00 AM).Vous serez probablement les premiers sur le site et vous profiterez, si vous etes chanceux, d'un superbe lever de soleil sur le Machu Picchu.

by Maillekeul

Take a bus to Urubamba, stop in Chichero (see my page about this city), and then take a cab (negociate the price !) to go and see the wonderful salinas of Maras (go and see my Maras page, if you don't feel like going there !).Prenez un bus pour Urubamba, arretez-vous a Chichero (je vous renvoie a ma page sur cette ville) et prenez un taxi (negociez bien le prix !) jusqu-aux salinas de Maras (si vous ne sentez pas d'y aller, faites un tour sur ma page Maras)

Cusco : Choquequirao

by Maillekeul

You have to do this trek, better than the Inka Trail, according to many guides... Go on my Choquequirao page to see what you can't miss !!Vous devez faire ce trek, meilleur que le Chemin de l'Inca, selon pas mal de guides. Allez sur ma page Choquequirao et regardez ce que vous n'avez pas le droit de louper !!

Amantani : Have a coffee at 6 Am - Un cafe a 6.00

by Maillekeul

On the Amantanil Island, on the main place, there is a bar that opens at 6.00 AM : after enjoying the sunrise, go there to order a coffee and drink it on the place !Sur l'ile d'Amantanil, sur la place principale, il y a un bar qui ouvre a 6.00 du mat' : apres avoir apprecie le lever de soleil, venez y commander un cafe que vous degusterez au soleil, sur la place !

Aguas Calientes

by chancay

Aguas Calientes is the place where a tour to Machu Picchu normally ends. If you have done the trail (and not only then) it is fantastic to relax in the thermal bathes of this little village (aguas calientes = hot water)

Mancora and Punta Sal

Very in the north already near the border to Ecuador you find some little villages with a lot of opportunities of beach vacations. There are several clubs, hotels, apartmentents to rent to stay some days at the beach. All the year highest temperatures...(not only near to the country of Ecuador but as well near to the aquator)
