Kabok: Forgetable

by jpizquierdo

We arrived about 20:30, only one table used inside, we seated and waited about 5 minutes to be attended, we order a pad Thai and a chicken green curry. the pad thai, wasn´t even related with the real thai recipe, no tasty not eatable, and the green curry , also not related with the real recipe, was reazonable good, but was not what I´ve asked. service was slow, we were only 7 people on the restaurant and took about half an hour.

La Buena Muerte: Popular restaurant

by jorgejuansanchez

This restaurant is an institution in Peru. It is mainly frequented by locals but since it is recommended in many tourist guides you will find several foreigners too. You should order the ceviche, a Creole speciality, very popular in Ecuador as well. Drink pisco sour

All over Peru and Bolivia: Potatoes, as you never knew them.

by melosh

How many types of potatoes do you know? I read that Peruvians claim over 250 varieties. When I mentioned this to some Bolivians they claimed that there were over 400 varieties shown every year at a Bolivian potato festival. Going to a Peruvian market and looking at the potatoes, is like going to a Mexican market and inspecting chiles or checking out the types of pasta in an Italian supermarket. It is overwhelming, and there seems to be a special name for each type. There even seems to be a variety of tastes and uses. The different potatoes I found in soup seemed to each add special character, but of course, all the other ingredients may have been at least partly responsible. Also, I recall some simple boiled potatoes given to me on a trek as being particularly tasty, but of course, this could have been the setting or my hunger level.

KP: Ollantaytambo

by simplesee

Great place to have breakfast. Got an omlette, hash browns, tea, juice, bread and a pancake with honey for a little more than $3!!! Was the best breakfast that I've had in a long time, and that includes from back home. Our total bill for 4 people was about $14!!! The place is also a hostel as well but I didn't find anything about it. It's right across the street from Hostal Sauce. Take advantage! All of them were pretty delicious and hit the spot.

"Chepita": Fresh cuy

by melosh

This restaurant and picanteria specializes in game animals and Peruvian specialties. It was recommended to us by a taxi driver. Who got a little tip from the owner, I think. Still it was truly a great place to experience cuy. The other food was good as well. The cuy was a dramatic unforgettable presentation as previously described in a prior tip. As related in my 1st Peru travelogue, when I ask if their cuy was fresh, they brought it out alive. You can not get fresher than that. This restaurant is in Lima's modern financialdistrict of San Isidro on the corner on AUGUSTOTAMAYO. They serve traditional Peruvian food like Ceviche,Mixto, Lomo Saltado , Papa a la Huancaina, Aguaditode Pollo, Chupe de Camarones, Escabeche de pescado the food is fresh traditional cuisine. They alsohave daily specials that feature international dishesfrom other South American cuisines. I met with Eduardo GarlandBaron, the chief and owner, he was born in Peruand has operated restaurants in Cancun, Costa Rica andHouston The restaurant is surrounded by modern decor and filled withbright colors, it is a great setting to enjoy awonderful local meal. Meals are from 3 to 5 US dollars plus drinks. The best thing is the variety of dishes and the price

Anywhere !!: Cuy on a stick

by cabbage69

On the way back from a tour to Kuelap, we stopped off at a house with stunning views over the surrounding countryside and mountains. There, i tried some guinea pig! Have you ever seen a Garfield with suction cups stuck onto a car window? Imagine that, minus the suction cups, but with third degree burns, a stick up its arse, and a shocked/amazed expression on its face as the stick comes out of the top of its head. On a plate of rice and vegetables. I found the meat quite alright eating, but it was a bit fiddly to get at. Guinea Pig is perhaps not to everybody's taste, but you've got to try these things!

La Retama, Cusco: Wonderful Cusco Restaurant

by butterfly_girl

One of my favorite evenings in Peru was dinner at La Retama. This candlelight restaurant overlooking the Plaza de Armas is a special spot. The food is wonderful, but it's the nightly dance and music show that makes this place really stand out. I got pulled out of the audience and with embarrasment, had to attempt my version of a Peruvian dance! Highly recommended spot!

Jack's Cafe: So Good!!!

by sweetbean

Jack's Cafe is a great little place in the San Blas area of Cusco. They give you huge portions and the food is absolutely delicious! And the prices are great too. They have a great selection of sandwiches and snacks. Definitely a great place to stop for lunch or a very hearty breakfast, which is served all day. It's mostly filled with tourists, and sometimes there's a wait, but it's worth it. I had the most amazing bean and cheese tortilla there with all the fixins (salsa, quacamole, sour cream). To die for! My husband had a great salami club sandwich. We went also for breakfast once and the egg specials they have are delicious and super filling.
