THE INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU...

by skullcrusher

THE INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU - If you have the time and the energy. It's a high altitude odysee. An unforgettable experience. When I was there in 2000 you could do the trail without a guide. I now hear that they've made guides mandatory. If that's true, I think it's a shame- but still something well worth doing.

Uros Islands and the Puno,...

by HighAdventur

Uros Islands and the Puno, Peru area of Lake TiticacaWhen you first step onto one of their islands, you'll notice the reed underfoot. That's because these 'floating islands' are made from totora reed. The islands have been around for about 1000 years and currently have about 300 residents. As the reed rots out from underneath, they replace it with fresh reed on top. As Puno's largest attraction, the islands can get a little too. They make everything it seems with this reed including their houses and their boats from which they harvest more reed.On my way to the islands one morning, I injured my ankle. Delayed from our schedule, we didn't get out to the islands till afternoon. What a stoke of good luck! By the time we got to the main island, two of the residents were having a wedding. Out of 300 residents, what are the chances of showing up during a wedding? They have an interesting...

by HighAdventur

Anyone going to Peru and especially the mountains shouldn't miss Machu Picchu. I've been twice now and had definite plans both times to see it. I've still not seen the fabled city in the sky. Next time I won't miss. These ruins are situated at approximately 9000 feet with the mountainsides dropping off beyond the ruins. To many, it's a mystical place to visit.

by HighAdventur

When we finally did make it to the lake for our tour of Uros Islands, I noticed something odd about the lake's surface. It was green! There are tiny lime green balls (some sort of algae) floating on top. It creates a complete covering and almost looks like a lawn rather than a lake.

by Maai

you should stay in Lima for a few days. At first the city looks awfull, especially when you visit it in winter time (june-september), but you have to realise it is the beating heart of Peru and almost one third of the peruvians live there.you will get use to the smell of the cars, the pollution and the hectic scenes and you will meet real peruvians. If you get sick of it all, take a local bus to Chosica, it only takes half on hour and there is always sun. It is a quiet small town.the picture is taken in 'parque del amor' in Miraflores in Lima, near the coast.

Walk the Inca -trail

by DeniseBlom

Amazing scenery, cold nights, snowcapped mountains in the distance, high altitude, dazzling passes when you finally arrive at the top of the highest pass, you feel great ! And finally, seeing Machu Picchu from Inti Puntu, the greatest final of the inca-trail. It his hard to explain how you feel during and after the trail, only when you have experienced it yourself, you will know !

Where to start...Lima; The capital but very very few tourists - makes it great! Excellent little bars / cafes. The 2 main squares are fabulous. The moment you're noticed as not hailing from S America you will be swamped by women (if you're a guy) and vice-versa. I was there for about 4-5 days; just taking in the atmosphere (was at the time of the election and so caught the last day of the riots - what an eye-opener). If you can go for a couple of days, do! A few other attractions nearby, such as the Gold museum and Arms museum (biggest in World)......Cusco; great little city, superb architecture in the centre.Good haunts to relax in and have a beer. Did the sacred tour on horseback, great fun (local historical / Inca structures)........ Then onto the Incatrail; you'll have heard the lowdown on this already, & yes it's fantastic. A word of advice; if doing the 4 day Inca trail, watch out...

Walking in Machu Pichu ruins...

by fonares

Walking in Machu Pichu ruins can be challenging if you are not in shape. It's high up in the mountains and can be pretty hot.getting there was half the excitement. The train takes you to Agua Calientes, a town?, a village? a weird outpost in the mountain.

ISLA TAQUILLE Y LAGO TITICACA

by cronopio74

En este lugar, a unas cuatro horas de Puno por lancha, se puede apreciar la belleza del lago Titicaca. Aparte, al convivir con la gente del lugar se puede entender un poco cuan diverso es el Perú. In this place, far of the polluted coast of the lake, you can admire all the beauty of the Titicaca. Besides, people here can teach you how different can be a country just getting away some kms.
