I really enjoyed the flight...

by DJC

I really enjoyed the flight over the Nazca Lines. The best way to see them is from the air. We took the flight at 4pm so the angle of the sun made the Lines easier to spot. I've been told at midday, when the sun is directly overhead, they can be difficult to see.The planes often don't fly in the afternoon because it's windy and the thermals are strong, however at this time not only do you get a good view of the Lines the little plane jumps all over and is like a severe roller-coaster ride. That's a good thing by the way.Prices for the flight and a tour to the aqueduct or cemetary seem to be around USD 35 but I've been told the flight can be had for less if you go straight to the airport and ask the companies there.

Sandboarding (or just relaxing) in Huacachina near Ica. Incredible oasis in the middle of nowhere - v. cheap and v. friendly. Hire a sandboard for the day for a few pesos (I can't remember if that was the currency or not!) from Fernando - he runs a restaurant off the main square - and spend the day sandboarding, cooling off in the lagoon, and sipping beer at the *** Brothers restaurant (great name!).A picture of Huacachina is on the back of the 50 peso note.

Take the all-day tour of the area around Cusco... It is quite nice. This is me at the historical site of Pisac...The tour also includes a stop at a restaurant which is about $5 US all-you-can-eat buffet. Not 'authentic', but quite good all the same... Although the servers (locals) give a shameful glance when you go up for seconds (and thirds!)...

by tquevedo

I have been to Cuzco twice, and there are plety of activities and places to visit, besides Macchu pichu, do not forget Sacsayhuaman,Ollaytaytambo, Pisaq, in the city, Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, the Cathedral, San Blas, etc. All these places make Cuzco, a unique place where to find the roots of the Inca culture.Visiting these places makes you able to picture out how The Culture and life was developed in Cuzco during the Inca period, all the events which affected and the spanish influence that modified it.You will see the union of two different cultures and the dtuggle between them for keeping their roots.

by TheRedBanana

Of course, Macchu Picchu is one of the main attractions of a visit to Peru. Times are changing and who knows what parts of the area will become more restricted due to carelessness by visitors.Macchu Picchu in and of itself is amazing enough for its setting and historical, mystical presence. Time should definitely be made for a hike up Huayna Picchu, the peak that overlooks the ruins. There are steep steps that enable you to reach an incredible viewing area of the river valley below. There is another path that branches off to the left of this one that takes you to the Temple of the Moon. A good hour on this beauiful trail through the forest brings you to another area that should not be missed. The temple is carved out of a natural opening in the mountain and overlooks the Urubamba River Valley. One can't help but feel awed by the architecture so much a part of the earth from which it was...

by viajeromaga
