Avoid to change your money in...

by nygaston

Avoid to change your money in the streetit is sometimes dangerous and you may get false money, impossible to use...if you arrive late in the night, it is good to make a reservation for the hotel, because you will arrive tired and it is difficult to find a room when the hotels are closed...

Well, as at any place, we ' tourists ' we are targetedby false information, and we do or go, just 'becauseeverybody does it '. The common trap is to take us toa 'historic place', where all it is just an excuse tosell us fake items. Watch out!

by Dany_Kulta

The pre-colombian civilisations have done so many things, that if you really are interested in it, you will never get out of Peru...lol........You can look at these skulls..skulls of Pre-Colombien civilizations !!!! It was a great sign of distinction for the most important families of Incas to have a skull like that! Since you were a baby, two pieces of hood were used to 'help' you to obtain a skull like that...Strange isn't it?

Always inform at your hostal...

by DeniseBlom

Always inform at your hostal the price of a taxi-trip to the place you want to go. Before getting in the taxi, settle the price down with the taxi-driver. They always ask more (at least one sol) than you are supposed to pay !

I am sorry for my Peruvian...

by Popol_Vuh

I am sorry for my Peruvian friends, but I have found Peru being an agressive country for tourists. People try to sell you everything, everywhere at any price. They show you pictures of nice hotels for too nice prices which then come to be owful ... Please be careful and do not accept the first offer. Compare, ask, get information from reliable agencies/services before taking decisions, otherwise you risk to be disappointed.

While this didn't happen to...

by dentistos

While this didn't happen to Carolyn or I, we met three people who, while they were snoozing between Chimbote and Trujillo on the bus, Had ether waved under their noses and when they were really asleep had many of their possessions stolen. One of the people was a street wise young peruana friend of ours. If you are travelling on your own, try and get the seat next to that of the copiloto. I am sure everyone who is travelling in Peru has heard of this. This information is for those of you who are heading in that direction

When going from Copacabana...

by rogdias

When going from Copacabana (lake Titicaca, Bolivia) to Puno on your way to Cusco you´re likely to travel on a bus operated by Tour Peru. They will recommend and take you to hotels in Puno. You should avoid these and look for yourself. But most of all, DO NOT buy a ticket from Puno to Cusco from them, for they charged me $US 15 while the fare is more like 25 soles.

Lake Titicaca with the...

by B_Caro

Lake Titicaca with the floating islands and Isla Taquile (the only ones I've visited) is very beautiful to see. But to me, it is one big tourist trap. It starts already at the harbor of Puno when you leave for the islands. Everyone tries to sell you pencils for the children on the islands. The floating islands are really impressive to see but there are so many tourists around that it lost some of its charm (according to me).According to the travel guides, Isla Taquille is quite authentic. Ok, it is pretty and nice. But also overhere, people (adults & children) ask you money for taking a picture the minute they see you. Ok, we tourists ourselves are to blame for that kind of behaviour. But compared with Bolivia, it was quite a difference.

Restaurant 'La Rosa Nautica'...

by thysj

Restaurant 'La Rosa Nautica' in Lima boasts to be 'one of the marvels of Peru and the World'. The building is in bad shape, the decoration is tasteless, the food is inferior to any decent little restaurant in Lima (hundreds). Overrated and overpriced.

by jbrack

Beware with the travel agencies selling you the Machu Pichu train tickets. Their prices are double or triple the real fare, but then trying to get one by yourself isn't easy guess why? - agencies have most of the tickets bought beforehand because they know demand is high
