LAN price difference

by yesjorn

hello,I'm from holland and unfortunately my 2 creditcards don't seem to work. (both visa and mastercard) the price difference is in my case 600 dollars (940 instead of 340. I've also tried enjoy-peru-travels.com and it didn't work (even though I was only allowed to choose Visa which I have)so if anyone recenty managed to get the cheap "peruvian" price. Please tell me how! I would like to take a flight from lima to juliaca on the 7th of july 2008. so I think I do have some time before all flights are booked...I hopethnaks you all!!Jorn

Lan Peru

by Arc86

Me and my friends also wondered about the diferent prices. We really tried everything to book it the cheaper way on the Peruvian site. At the end it never functioned. It seemed like you had to have a credit card exposed by a Peruavian bank.Curiously my parents got it the cheaper way 2 days earlier by trying it a houndert times with their credit card.Right now I have to book again with LAN. Do anybody know a certain way to book the cheaper version?

Aguas Calientes to Cusco

by barryg23

There are fewer trains back to Cusco from Aguas Calientes. But there are plenty going back to Ollantaytambo from where there are regular collectivos to Urubamba and then buses to Cusco. This sounds like a longer trip but it is actually faster (and cheaper) than taking the train from AC to Cusco. In Ollantaytambo, walk from the station to the main square to catch a collectivo (1 Sol). In Urubamba you don't even leave the station and the bus to Cusco costs 3 Sol.

Train from Puno to Cuzco

by colares

Hi,we took the train about 2 years ago in Anden Explorer Class. Enjoyed the comfortable seats, the meals and drinks as well as the Observation Car. Luggage is transported in a separate, guarded coach, thus no problems with thieves. The train going right through the Juliaca market and very beautiful landscape. One of those train rides you do not find too often and from the price point of view it was really worth the money. But, it is a ten hours ride on 5m long tracks. Thus there is a constant noise and of course a constant swinging of the coach, which rocked my wife to sleep and caused headache for myself.

PUNO TO CUSCO

by swesn

Some say it is better to go from Puno to Cuzco by bus... less bumpy and faster, perhaps. But, hey... I say take the train! It's kinda fun to swing like a pendulum and 'Look, ma! I'm suspended in the air... and again... and again!' for 10+ hours...

Train Cuzco - Machu Picchu

by Irina80

If you're doing trekking to Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Salkantay or other) a train trip from Aquas Calientes back to Cuzco is probably included. A word of advice: do not take the train all the way back to Cuzco because just when you already see Cuzco train station the train stops and then starts going back, then stops again and starts going forward, and so on ad nauseum, ad infinitum, and it'll be acting like a freagin' pendulum clock for at least 1,5 hour. I'm sure there is a reason behind that but I was too pissed off to think about it. Instead get off the train at either Ollanta or Poroy stops, don't remember which one but you'll see a lot of people getting off the train and there will be buses lined up nearby. Take the bus! It's just a few pesos but it'll save you lotsa time and nerves. This is of course related to backpackers train, I don't know how the luxury ones behave.

Road blocks and panoramic views

by Dominiques

Travelling with a bus through Peru can at times be hazardous. When we were there, there was a big strike, with several road blocks in big cities as Puno and Arequipa. The reason was that professors and teachers got paid less and had to pass a test - imagine that! -, but there was (in the summer of 2007) a general discontent towards president Alan Garcia. I had also read not so hopeful newspaper articles on bus accidents in Peru in 2004 and 2005, but it seems things have gotten better since then.Picture 2 shows how excellent the surroundings look like, sitting in a good seat in the bus when driving from Nazca tot Arequipa. We had several bus companies in Peru. The best was Cruz del Sur.
