Bus Taxi in Lima

by Dominiques

Indispensable when visiting Lima: innumerable bustaxi's drive around the city, with men hanging out or standing in the doorway rattling all the stops of the bus. We didn't understand a word of it, but after some assistance we got exactly were we wanted. A very fun and cheap way to travel around Lima.

Flying

by boltonian

Just be aware that in highland areas, the weather can change very suddenly, and this can mean delays and cancellations to flights. Many travellers said they had ruined their plans due to this problem.I had no problems, and have to say that TACA airlines were excellent as well as very cheap.

I'm a Giant

by profeanna

When I was in Peru, I felt like a giant. Being only 5'6, this was very new to me. Most of the time the combis (vans that cost about 60 centimos to go anywhere) were very cramped and I could not fit my knees behind the seat in front of me. Oh...and if anyone is interested, I once was on a combi with over 20 other full sized adults. They get very crowded and uncomfortable but are oh so cheap.

BEST BUSES TO GO AROUND PERU!!!

by calaro

PRICES CHANGE. IF YOU WANT A CHEAP BUS YOU CAN PAY 15 OR 20 SOLES, BUT IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND YOU WILL BE COLD MOST OF THE TIME IN PUMA AND POWER BUSES.I RECOMMEND ENLACES BUS, 50 SOLES FROM LIMA TO AREQUIPA OR FLORES 60 SOLES FROM AREQUIPA TO LIMA.EVERYONE RECOMMENDED CRUZ DEL SUR BUT THE ONLY TIME THAT I USED IT, A WHEEL EXPLODED, AND IT DIDN'T STOP TILL WE GOT TO THE PLACE WE WERE GOING.

Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu

by ThiagoRamos

You can go walking from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, but it´s a long way up to the top of the mountain (I was told one takes 45-60 minutes to get there). It doesn´t seem to much, but remember that you´ll walk a lot around the ruins... (not to mention the climb of Huayna Picchu)Most of the people, including myself, prefer to take a bus. You must buy tickets in advance (on the day before) at the bus stop, located at the only street used by cars in Aguas Calientes. Don´t worry... you´ll find it.

Cuzco - Aguas Calientes

by ThiagoRamos

The cheapest way to go from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes is by train. That´s how I did it. However, in spite of the distance not being so long, the train trip takes aound 4 hours.A faster option, more expensive though, is to take a bus to Moray (?) and then the train to Aguas Calientes. Many tourists seemed to be doing that. Check these options at your hotel or at the train station.

Lima - Cuzco

by ThiagoRamos

When you take a look at Peru´s map, you may feel tempted to think that you can take a bus to go from Lima to Cuzco or from Cuzco to Lima. However, you have to consider that Lima is located at the sea level, while Cuzco is 3.400 meters above it, on the Cordillera. The bus trip takes around 25-30 hours. Think again. The plane trip is more expensive but can save you a lot of time. The trip takes 1 and a half hour. Flights are operated by Lan Peru and Taka.

Puno to Cusco

by grahammclaren

I used "First Class" between Puno and Cusco, it is one of these companies which visit the archaeological sites en-route. Bus left on time from Puno and stopped at Pukara, La Raya and Andahuaylillas sites, also included was the services of a guide and a buffet lunch. At 9 hours it was a long day and the stops we made certainly helped, plenty time was allowed at the stops and although the guide we had was a bit letheragic, he did a good job and told us lots of interesting stuff about the sites and areas we were passing through. The cost was $20. and in my opinion good value for money.

Long distance buses

by grahammclaren

I used Cruz del Sur Imperial Service between Arequipa and Puno.Everything went smoothly at Arequipa Bus Station, but be aware that there is a local tax of 1.50 solsto pay before boarding. The check is very secure, your case is numbered according to your ticket number and loaded for you.Almost as soon as we were moving they handed out a plate with 3 biscuits and a carmel and a drink, and this was quickly followed by a game of bingo. The bus uses the road via Juliaca which is well surfaced, although the surface deteriorates a little across the Alto Plano but there is interesting scenery all the way. Spotted Vacunas, Llamas, and Alpaca. The bus arrived in Puno on time, luggage reclain was a bit of a scrum but secure enough, the terminal is very modern and there are plenty of taxis waiting outside.A very easy and plesant journey.

mp train

by coolswizzle

going to MP i took the vistadome but since i was staying in the sacred valley the night before i had a few more hours of extra sleep compared to the poor folks who took the train in cusco. the vistadome has more windows and a train attendant (is that what you call them?) that offers snack and there`s soothing instrumental peruvian music being played throughout the trip. i would recommend this train if you want comfort at a good price.
