    lunch in Arica / Chile
    by chancay
I´ll try to list here some of the special foods I tried:

    Fricasé (with Llama) in Bolivia
Cui (guinea pig) in Bolivia or Peru
Api (a maiz drink) in Bolivia
Ceviche (cool fish or seafood in lemon sauce) Peru
Lomo saltado (Peru) or Pique Macho (Bolivia) = beef and sausage with potatoes and onions and a hot tomato sauce
mariscos = all kind of Seafood in Peru or Chile
Pisco Sour (Peru and Chile.....they are still discussing where the drink is originally from....the Pisco is surely from Peru, there is the town and teh region of Pisco, the cocktail might be first invented in Chile.....at least Chilean have been more successfully in making the cocktail famous worldwide)
Chicha (morada) in Peru, another maiz drink, alcoholic and unalcoholic
of course bife = beef....most famous from Argentina, but there is also great beef from Bolivia or Uruguay (and more countries)
Papa a la Huancaina (Peru) potatoes with a very hot sauce based on aji amarillo, a kind of yellow chili
empanadas (Peru or Chile) or salteñas (Bolivia) = samosas, filled also with cheese or seafood, eggs, beef and vegetables

    I will add more...!!

Janaina also told me, those Outlets for Pao de Queijo are now all over Brazil, even the national bread has become a fast food chain. well, thats how it is these days, but don't forget to get a good cup of braz. Coffee...thanks Jana

food in general is easy to get and always very tasty, you also can trust the praia vendors..if they would sell bad food, they ould sell there livelyhood..
of course some tummies are a lil tender and need time to get used to foreign food...sometimes, Imodium comes handy

Casa Piedra in San Pedro de Atacama
Hard to tell from the outside how wonderful the atmosphere was - a huge burning brazier to keep everyone warm, friendly and amusing waiters.

Tomato soup, Pork chops and rice covered with mushroom sauce. Delicious.
