When flying to Dritabiki for our Marowijne trip, our plane landed for a few minutes at Sarakreek. They had to deliver something, passengers remaining on board.
Sarakreek is a gold mining concession south of the Brokopondo barrier lake. We just want to show the scars in the landscape that are caused by this gold mining - not to speak of the pollution with mercury.
The journey to Brownsberg was broken up by a roadside picnic, where drinks and sandwiches were provided. We couldn't understand the need to eat sandwiched mid-morning, having not long since had breakfast, and lunch would be provided on arrival at Brownsberg.
We were jolly glad we did though, as lunch didn't materialise until 4pm! A group of Dutch people on a day trip to Brownsberg were using the kitchen facilities, which meant we had to wait until they were finished!
