by grets Lunch is served at a riverside restaurant called Broki, in a building reminiscent of a boat dock. The seating consists of beautifully carved pieces of furniture, with rounded shapes, all sculptyed out of a single piece of wood. Also hammock seats and a large double bed, as well as more usual seating.
Chicken with a satay sauce called "Penda Sambal" (very spicy and yummy), served with rice mixed with nuts, tofu, very thin, dark green beans, bean sprouts and plantain. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalDirections: Next to the bus station

by grets Just an easy stroll away from our hotel was this very good Chinese restaurant. There is a take away desk downstairs and large seating area upstairs. The restaurant is air conditioned, which is a blessing in this heat. Tables for six or eight meant that we could easily eat with our friends. The service was quite quick and efficient, and despite ordering the food at different times, it all arrived together.
I had the beef with ginger, which was very nice indeed. It was quite sweet, but also very gingery. Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about average

by grets To think that I had to travel all the way to Surinam in South America to get my first experience with Korean food! And a very good experience it was too. There was eight of us dining, and we were given a small screened off room to ourselves. Perhaps they'd heard about our raucous laughter?
I really, really enjoyed the spicy garlic prawns, there were lots of butterflied prawns, still with the tail on, in a spicy gingery sauce. David had beef and green peppers, which he also greatly enjoyed, while the others had pork chop suey, mixed seafood with vegetables, beef chop suey and sweet & sour prawns. Everybody were very satisfied with their food. Excellent pancakes and atmosphere. Lots of locals and ex-pat Dutch come by here. Everything on the menu is for between 10~25 SRD. They have sweet pancakes, as well as dinner ones too. With toppings from ham & cheese, chicken, greens, fruit to ice cream, there will be a flavor you'll like!
If you are looking for a dinner, the ham is good. If you are looking for a dessert treat, the "sweety" and fruit flavors are good. Theme: OtherPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Van Sommelsdijkstraat 11Phone: 422914

Javanese food stalls by DSwede Suriname has a mixture of cultures and with that, the foods are quite varied. At this outdoor food court, nearly all the vendors are of Javanese (Indonesian) decent. The foods are quite true to their heritage. They will serve your dishes in take-away dishes. You can eat any any of the many tables there, or go sit on the seawall.
All dishes are good here. The display cases allow you to see what it looks like before you order. Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Waterkant St.Directions: on Waterkant St. Between Cromme Elleboog street and Mr. J.C. De Mirandastraat

omelet on toast by DSwede Zuz & Zo's has a guesthouse (starting price of 25 EUR/night), but I find that a little expensive for backpacker-budget accommodation. They do however offer many tours and excursions. They also rent bicycles for 3 EUR per day (or 35 EUR per month) Their food is good and if you are a paying customer they have a Wi-Fi hotspot for free (just register your computer with the reception on 2nd floor).
Everything I had here was good. I may have been partial to the toast, ham & omelet breakfasts. The restaurant is situated right on the banks of the Paramaribo, a very tranquil surrounding, the theme is nautical, lots of heavy wood, with the option of sitting outside, candles on the tables, everything you would normally get in an international restaurant. The food is typical international food and the restaurant caters mainly for the tourist trade, expect to eat steak, fish etc in a well presented manner, wines are mainly from Chile, prices are all in USD, you can pay in USD but they don't always have enough USD to give you your change in that currency.
Well, me had the steak, and it were good, very well presented, I can't really say that there is anything outstanding or quirky about the restaurant, its just very good food, a very nice ambience, friendly staff, well placed and interesting, plus its away from the 'strip' opposite the Torarica, so its a bit quieter.
