travelling March till July? Rainy days!

by Valeggua

Make waterproof trips: make sure you have enough plastic bags or other waterproof bags to cover your luggage. Especcialy in the wild interior it can get a little cold, so long sleeves, and don't forget your raincoat and umbrella.During the rain season the streets in Paramaribo can overflow up to 1 meter!. It's not a bad idea to take your rain boots! The rain has no mercy in Surinam, so be well prepared, es

Draw cash at RBTT ATM's

by theo1006

We do not like to travel with a thick wad of dollars or euros. Unlike what was stated in our 2005 guide book, you can now draw cash in Paramaribo with your Master Card from a score of ATM's of the RBTT bank (RBTT = Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago). There is also a RBTT ATM at Nieuw Nickerie. ATM's of other banks only take local cards.Obtain a list of their ATM's at RBTT head office, Kerkplein 1.

Packing List

by bennieofzo

If you're traveling a lot, take a backpack and if you're staying at a hotel a suitcase will do. Again, this depends on your typ of travel. Some good walking shoes will do. Take something against dehydration with you. Get the appropriate shots for a travel to Suriname (hepatits, typhus, malaria). Take a small first aid kit with you. Medical supplies are very expensive in Suriname. Take a musquito net with you to hang above and over your bed. A lemon scent body stick/oil against the musquitos.

Packing List

There's that ship again. What a highway!Travel as light as possible, no fancy stuff needed here. Maybe a light and cheap throwaway poncho, the kind that fold up into little packets. Lightweight clothing otherwise, it is hot and humid and when it rains it really rains. Good footgear, don't skimp here. Protect your feet properly, use the right shoes for the variety of kinds of excursions you might take. The usual re sunblocks for the fair skinned. I have never seen a need to use this stuff but I know that it does work. All of your needs are available locally, so you have to decide how much of it to pack from your home country. Less is better, but it is all a matter of personal preference. Again, all of these places are reasonably well equipped with really no need to bring things from home unless you have preference for certain brands. Many medications that would ordinarily be...

Protection against mosquitos

by duke0123

You really have to take a mosquito-net with you. Not every accommodation had own nets so you can use your own if necessary.
