Waaggebouw: Historic setting

by tompt

This restaurant is located in one of the top 5 historic buildings of Paramaribo. It is used to be the central trading post and weighing house of the harbour. Its history dates back to the 17th century. It then was a wooden building which was lost in the great fire of 1821. It was rebuilt with stone walls of 1 meter thick. Later it was used as customs office.Today it is a centre of art, culture and tourism. Where you can book a tour, have a drink or eat something. The food is western style and somewhat 'upper-class' for Paramaribo standards. Prices are higher than average. But the food and the ambiance is great and you should go there at least once and enjoy. Pasta with shrimps.

Mcdonalds: Mcdonalds

by Valeggua

There's one Macdonalds in Suriname, located in Paramaribo. My opinion is that but it would be a waste of your money (and health) to eat here.Meals are small comparing them to American or European Mc's, and there's better and more tastefull food in Surinam, for cheaper prices.

Waterfront: very good food at the Waterfront

by Valeggua

Good Suriname food you can find at the Waterfront at the Surinam river. It's not a restaurant, but there are different stands with all kinds of food: Creole, Indonesian, Chinese, very nice and very cheap. "bakabana with pindasaus"

Havana Lounge: No diner here, but dancing is okay!

by Valeggua

It's the only "wok-restaurant" in Suriname. It's got Beautiful interior... And a great dancing area...But the buffet is so POOR, it would be a waste of your money.Okay, the 55 SRD for eating can be reasonable (althoug the the choices you have are... so little! And we had some spoiled fish, disgusting!!)And then they don't give you a menu-card for the drinks. Wich are EXPENSIVE! (8 SRD for juice is expensive in Suriname) So.. surprise. Nope, Never again. On the other hand, the lounge and dancing area is great!!

Chi Min: Chi Min, Chinese food

by Valeggua

Very nice Chinese specialities, and very cheap! If you can't eat all, you can take it away! The only problem I had with this restaurant was the high airconditioning. Fried rice with a plate of sizzling shrimps

Fa Tai: Large meals chinese style

by tompt

It is the oldest chinese restaurant in Paramaribo. The restaurant doesn't have a special chinese atmosphere, it looks like your average chinese restaurant inside. The restaurant is however located on the second floor and when you sit at the window you do have a view. The food is great and the portions are huge. We were there with six people and we were asked to sit at a larger table (for 8) because they were afraid the food wouldn't fit on the table. And they were right. There are many great dishes. But the shrimps with noodles were memorable.

Lee's Korean Restaurant: Fresh sushi on request!

by erroldebisarun

Nice Korean Restaurant in beautiful Mahonylaan "Mahoganylane" lined with giant trees.Fish is superb, even lobster at affordable prices! Bulgogi (beef) scrumptious, fresh vegetables good. Chicken garlic plate and hot pepper soup to die for. Easy parking, view from upstairs restaurant not so entertaining though.Friendly staff tries well, but Surinamese service is generally not up to par. Food compensates for that (in a lot of other Surinamese restaurants it doesn't!). Red snapper sweet/sour. Lobster with butter. Bulgogi. Fried shrimps

Fa Tai: One of the best chinese in town.

by SpaniardPolo

In downtown Paramaribo you can enjoy of one of the best Chinese Restaurants in town.Fa Tai will give you a fast and efficient service with a wide range of chinese dishes. From typical spring rolls to different classes of duck dishes; all the beef you can imagine; vegetables; shrimps of all sort etc.....You can eat upstairs with a view of the buzzling street or you can order yor favourite food to take away.Even if you call in advance you cannot wait the queue that every day is on the first floor to deliver your order.Very reasonable prices and nice staff will serve you nice. Roasted Duck and different kinds of shrimps deserve going inside the restaurant.Spring rolls and fried chicken are also excellent. They serve a wide range of vegetables dishes for vegetarians.

The Surinamese creole dishes are like hmmm very delicious. I enjoyed the Javanese dishes which reminds me of every morning at the back of the market I'll go and buy some Dawet, when you drink one u want another. This is a photo of my daughter enjoying some too.Other tasty foods to try are loempia, petjel, kafie, kemplang, croquel just to name a few. After a hot day cool down do not hesitate to buy from the shave ice man a cup of shave ice with your chosen flavored syrups (argeadestroop). For a comfortable and relaxing and enjoyable meal there's Krasnopolsky its the ideal place to dine.....it has a hotel restaurant bar and casino for the lovers of Casinos. There is also the Torrarica International Hotel and Bar for your dining needs.
