Waaggebouw: Historic setting
This restaurant is located in one of the top 5 historic buildings of Paramaribo. It is used to be the central trading post and weighing house of the harbour. Its history dates back to the 17th century. It then was a wooden building which was lost in the great fire of 1821. It was rebuilt with stone walls of 1 meter thick. Later it was used as customs office.Today it is a centre of art, culture and tourism. Where you can book a tour, have a drink or eat something. The food is western style and somewhat 'upper-class' for Paramaribo standards. Prices are higher than average. But the food and the ambiance is great and you should go there at least once and enjoy. Pasta with shrimps.
