In general have good experiences with Surinam taxi's, because I was always making deals in advanced.
ALWAYS ask for the price before going into a taxi.
Even if you call a taxi central, hese drivers can also set you off!
There are many streetcabs in Paramaribo, but I think it's best to call a taxi central.
It's okay to make deals with street cabs, but be clear about prices, and don't take these alone by yourself ( I've heard some stories about robbing).
When you make clear deals with the driver, don't admit and give more money. Just give the agreed amount of money, and walk away.
Always ask for prices and have the exact amount of cash money with you.

Two commentators on my page Avarice and carolietje seem to have especially become members to comment on my tip here (as I can see no other activity on VT on their part).
Anyway, I suppose things have changed over the years. The outhouse is in my parent's garden. They don't live deep in the jungle though but across the river near Paramaribo. My father still prefers the outhouse every day!
Uh, ignore the outhouse.

 Surinamese visa by grets
For those of you who live in the UK, the nearest embassy is in Brussels. The visa costs £26, and unless you are able to visit the embassy yourself, is best arranged through an agency such as Travcour.
They charge a £20 handling fee and a £30 courier fee, making the cost of the visa a whopping £76 (ca$100).
Make sure you check the visa on receipt, as one of our party's visa was not signed and caused her no end of problems on arrival in Paramaribo. Having paid £76, the last thing you want is a visa which is not endorsed!
I have heard of people who have been able to negotiate the courier fee with Travcour, but I am not sure about the validity of this.
Unfortunately, there is no alternative if you wish to visit Suriname. Leave a Comment

Hire one of these guys instead. As always, get to know the locals.
People have just gotten too lazy, and there's a lot of that reflected on VT by the droves of people who register questions on the Discussion Board. I am not speaking about the regular contributors, but we see these inane questions every day. 'I'm doing a school project and would like to know where.....................'
