Horse flies. Pesky little things, which bite as soon as you stand still. They are noisy little buggers, and large enough to spot as the buzz around you. Either keep moving or swat them with a hat, they do get fed up with being hit and actaully leave you alone after a while. Until the next time. Horse fly bites are quite painful, but at least they don't itch! I managed to get 19 bites on one single trek!
Trees. Some contain poisons in their bark, so be careful what you touch. During a rest I leant against a tree trunk, and within an hour or so, my elbow had come up in an angry red rash and hundreds of little blisters which itched like hell. The scars still haven't healed two weeks later!
Frogs. Do not touch them unless you are 100% sure they do not contain poison. The tiny poison arrow/dart frogs contain enough poison to kill you! DO NOT EAT!
Snakes. The chances are that the snake you see will be poisonous. Do not handle. We didn't actually see any snakes during our visit, but there are many venomous snakes around this area. Leave a Comment

The only real danger I have experienced in Suriname is that one has to be very careful walking in the street during night, time preferebly take taxis which are not expensif. Do never travel out of town during night time, you may risk your life. Leave a Comment

Book your excursions in advance at a renowned agency. Get your shots and pills (tuberculoses, hepatitis, malaria). Plan your trip with good atention and always make sure when you book something when you're in Suriname, you book it at a legilate office/agency.

Don't be the unfortunate one to be caught violating the traffic rules because its penalty is very harsh or caught driving without a driver's licence this penalty I heard is almost 1million guilders.
Robbery is at it minimal risk, the military policemen ensure there're safety.
Always change your currency at a bank or cambio, to avoid con men around. Leave a Comment

we went there and they said its no bus coming anymore today.. so we walked up the hill^^
it took us 5h!! it was already dark wenn we arrived!
if you miss the bus at brownsweg, stay there overnight! it was no fun the other day with all the blisters :( Leave a Comment
