Panini's: I hate to copycat BUT!
Italian. Fresh prepared, nice presentation, lovely atmosphere. Upscale, leisurely!
Favorite Dish: Ravioli with Salmon was spectacular. So too was the wine, naturally. Starter was a mushroom and seafood dish. This was okay.
Panini's: Mamma mia!
One of the best restaurants in Montevideo; elegant, cosy ... and excellent home-made Italian food.

Panini's: One the best Italian restaurants in Montevideo
Panini's offers excellent Italian food with some very innovative dishes and has also a very good wine list. Try the local Uruguayan wine Tannat (Pisano is very good, for example
Favorite Dish: I really liked the Lasagna and as well as the Seafood ravioli
Lots of different places: Parrilla and Pizzaria
The calling sign is the smell of roasting meat. You can actually smell this all over the city, but it is more intense just in front of the actual grill. You should easily be able to observe that the place is active by the wood fire with various meats in various stages of cooking. In the Mercado del Puerto you do not even have a plate of glass between you and the barbeque.
Favorite Dish: Steak, chivito and matambre are special. There are great and inexpensive wines to enjoy.

Panini's: Elegant Italian
Panini's provides an excellence of service and ambiance that one doesn't expect in laid back Uruguay. Often the food is sublime, but there are potholes along the way. Their breads are delicious and varied. Two pastas were wonderful a Sorrentino Caprese featured tender raviolis filled with a mouth-watering melted, gooey cheese filling and elegantly draped in a sauce of basil, tomato and olive oil. The lasagna comes bubbling with a pretty toasted top. On the other hand, the ravioli Neri were intensely fishy with their black pasta and smoked salmon filling. The Carpaccio di Polpo was beautifully presented and very good, but once again the seafood was a bit too fishy. The wine list is extraordinary and the sommelier will help recommend wines.
Favorite Dish: Sorrentino Caprese and Lasagne.
