My husband loves chocolate ice cream and he had tasted some all around the world. Among the best are definitly the ones from : La Cigale in Uruguay. They have many branches all over. And not only chocolate, dozens of different flavours as well, including of course : dulce de leche!

Lunch in the Mercado del Puerto, Montevideo by mcaffa One cannot miss visiting the Mercado del Puerto, where you will find the best asado, or barbecue, in the city. There are many restaurants to choose from. You definitely have to have a bottle of Medio y Medio to accompany your meal. I recommend going to Palenque.
Parrilla, which is essentially barbecued meat (as well as organs, so if your not too keen into eating that, make sure you ask them to substitute with more sausage or morcilla (blood sausage). If all the restaurants in Jose Ignacio are as good as Lucy's it is no wonder that people come from miles away. Lucy's is a cute little restaurant/tearoom. I would have to say that the food here was probably the best we had in Uruguay. We had the option of inside seating or out on the patio. We chose inside. The service was prompt and waitress quite friendly. Menu in spanish only.
Before our meal we were served small pieces of toasted home baked bread. Also a side dish of sauce/spread that looked like tartar sauce but it tasted different. It did have a mayo base though. Price for bread 45.00 UYU ($2.30 each) I had the curried fish and the presentation was very pretty. Why did I forget to take a picture? Hubby had strips of grilled fish with small white potatoes. We passed on the delicious looking desserts that were on display. I would have loved to have came back at 7pm for tea. The restaurant located inside the Casa Pueblo is called Las Terrazas, there you can enjoy drinks while admiring the beautiful sunset or dine by the moonlight. I would have to say that eating here is more for the experience than the food. Not that the food was bad, it is just that the view is more memorable. We especially enjoyed seeing the night herons out on the rocks waiting for a meal to come along. Dinner is served from 8:30pm until 1am. They offer seafood and steaks. Full bar and a nice wine selection. The snack bar is open all day.
I had fresh steamed fish and hubby had grilled chicken for our main course. For dessert we shared an anise custard and a flan with carmelized topping. We also had a bottle of Don Pascal red wine A light buffet breakfast is included with your room. They offer coffee (nescafe), tea, milk, toast, yogurt, pastry, ham, and cheese. Breakfast service starts at 8:30am. Leave a Comment

Last night in Uruguay and our favorite little restaurant closed ( Sunday , late , like 11:00 pm ), we boarded a taxi and told the cabbie to take us to a good churrascaria , that is , a parrillada.... So , we arrived at El Entrevero which also is like rustic with the feeling of an old place , lost in time , but in reality a smartly conceived restaurant with an interior that gives you instant appetite..... A rich menu , lots of goodies , Camila and I couldn't resist having red meat again..... So , we basically ordered the same as usual , blood sausage ( Camila and I are hooked on this...) which comes in two types ( "salty" and "sweet"..) , the salty being the "ordinary" that we know , if we love this and the sweet made with cinammon as ingredient , heavenly....... Then the chunk of wooden-log bbqued red meat , no matter which cut , everything melts on the tongue accompanied by baked potato with butter, parsley and a bit of garlic and of course fresh , crispy bread and the uruguayan passion , chimichuri...... Very recomendable , solid restaurant with optimal performance...
No way to pinpoint a single dish nor describe the why and the how of the taste .... It's the perfect restaurant for the "seafood diet ", you see it , you eat it..... Well , the sweet blood sausage needs another hailing...... hmmmmmmmmmm.... getting weak just thinking about it...... Easy to spot pink building! by Marie-France This restaurant specializes in pasta, which in Colonia is usually homemade. The menu of the day offers a choice of pastas, a dessert and a glass of wine (or pop) for one low fixed price. Comfortable interior and friendly service. Leave a Comment

The menu was posted outside the doors to the diningroom. Much to our surprise the food was less expensive there than any other restaurant of its calibur. There are several dining rooms in the Argentinio Hotel. We ate in the informal dining room that had one wall lined with windows, we had a view of the sea and Piriapolis. The waitress was quite pleasant and spoke a few words of english. It was a very special feeling just being there in the hotel having lunch like so many others had before us.
Favorite Dish: I had a steamed filet of fish that was seasoned just right and delicious. Hubby had chicken with peppers, onions, and tomato that he enjoyed. For dessert he had custard with cream that was served in an original 1920 desert dish. I had flan with carmel topping on the side. It was the best food that we had in Piriapolis. Leave a Comment
