Uruguay wine by kyoub Much to our surprise we found Uruguay wine very good. We knew about wine from Chile and Argentina but not Uruguay. That is because they only have small vineyards and they are just now starting to export their wine. The climate is perfect for growing grapes and they grow a species of tannet. Most tannet's are bended but theirs is not. Wine is sold at most mercados One day while shopping at the Super Mercado in the wine section, we started talking to a local. He said that he was a beekeeper and asked if we ate honey. I love honey! He happened to have some in his car and sold us a 16 oz jar for $5. It was delicious. Miguel Backer honey is also sold in souvenir shops. Leave a Comment

First day in MVD , evening... it's almost freezing ( relatively for us Brazilians ) and of course we haven't brought any pullover , sweat shirt or anything else to protect us from the icy wind....Camila has some sleeveless blouses but at least she brought jeans... I only brought light sleeveless shirts and shorts... no long pants and no socks.... So..... what happens is what I wanted to avoid in any case.... Camila wants to go shopping for clothes.... (grrrr !! &!@$$(*& !). And look !!!! Two minutes walk from the hotel is one of the FOUR (!!!) shopping malls the city has to offer : the Punta Carretas Shopping Mall, right there at Calle Héctor Miranda and Calle José Ellauri ... So , I walk into the first promising clothes boutique/shop and take about 3 minutes to choose the right and warm jacket that fits me perfectly.... Without going into further details , Camila took about three hours to buy a coat , 3 blouses , 3 pairs of socks and some bijouterie.... and nowhere a place for me to sit in sight , pure hell for me..... Next day early , before the city tour , we board a cab and have it drive us to one of Montevideos main shopping streets .... It's Ave. 18 de Julio and this is where you'll find priceworthy clothes- , shoe- and any other "normal" type of stores. Camila got her kick again and was happy..... Pic 1: Entrance gate for Punta Carretas Shopping Mall Pic 2: I REALLY liked this stores name... Could it be that they have some for sale..?? Pic 3: Camila happy as always when in a shopping mall.... Pics 4 and 5 : Avenida 18 de Julio ....
Well , no real special , otherwise hard to find items , just the normal stuff like shoes , clothes , jewelry and bijouterie ( = the cheapo ear rings , silver rings or necklaces , colorful stuff for the wrist , etc...) . But then , how would I know...? I'm the worst anti consumer type you could imagine.... I hardly ever buy anything for myself ( shoes and clothes..... all the stuff I have was bought by other people for me...). The only things I MIGHT buy for myself are my toys , like digital cameras , cell phone , computer, cigarettes and office supply.... ( lol...)
Uruguay is definitely cheaper in most ways than Brazil , we really could tell the difference.... And you Americans or Europeans would definitely say that Brazil is very cheap in most ways..... So , there you go..... Pay what they ask for , this is not a bazaar where you start dealing and whining.... The prices are more than fair.... Theme: OtherAddress: José Ellauri x Héctor Miranda , 18 de JulioDirections: any cab will bring you there....
