Taxes
You rent a car (It was $18.60 a day.) You add the regular fees and taxes (Another $7 a day.) You buy insurance on the internet ($10 or $12 a day) and you think all you have left is gas, but when you go to pickup your car you are told that you have to pay another $7 a day of tax on the insurance you bought outside Uruguay. Maybe I am the only one to be trapped by this outrage. Perhaps if I had fought harder against the illogic of this extra cost it would have disappeared. This is just a warning so you can be prepared. All in all renting a car to see the countryside was a great decision. Take full advantage of the chance to stop in lots of little towns and to pull off the road to contemplate the scenery that you would only see in passing if you traveled by bus.
