Favorite thing: Be not shocked about the prices at los roques: we checked a few posadas and the prices were risen 2-3 times since 2004. The normal price if you dont want to sleep in a dark room with fan, without window (and it can be very hot there!!!) you have to pay 60 Dollars per person (with breakfast and Dinner). I recommend to take the full service, because there is almost nothing to buy for lunch at gran roque. There is only one island where you can be shure to get lunch: Franciski. Restaurants at gran Roque are closed during midday and Afternoon. There is a Bank office on the island, where you can get 300 Dollars max a day. But if you put the money aside, the island is real paradise...
Los Roques is an archipelago located 166 kilometres from Caracas, in the Carabbean sea. Its main island, the only inhabited one, is called Gran Roque. The archipelago became a national park in 1972 and is formed by about 40 islands and 250 coral beds. On the island there are no beaches - or better there are, and they are wonderful - the sea is green and crystal clear but... it's all dotted by boats so that swimming is impossible: one needs to go to a surrounding island.
Fondest memory: What Gran Roque has, however, is the archipelago's only mountains: tiny but beautiful: Cerro el Cabezón, Cerro Faro Viejo, Cerro el vapor, Faro Holandés and el Cerro el Calvario. From up there the views are amazing, especially at sunset.
