Luggage and bags:
If you go only to Los Roques, travel as light as you can, you will be faster at the airports
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Los Roques has a wonderful weather, you'll just need swimsuites and light clothes for the evening
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring the medecines you need, all you can buy in Gran Roque is aspirine!
Photo Equipment: If you like taking pics, bring lots of film! A polar filter could be useul because of the strong light
Miscellaneous: Always carry one along. You cant believe how trashy can humans be. My sister Mariángel loves to drink a "Polar" beer at the beach. And was does she do after she has finished? What does she do with the can? She places it in her trash bag. And 5 or 6 hours later, when the little boat comes for us, there is Mariángel picking up everybodies trash, cigarrettes filters, anything. She has always been that way. She goes around cleaning up everything and leaving the place in better conditions that it was before. If everybody did like Mariángel!!!
Miscellaneous: I hate cigarrette stubs and filters in the white sand of Los Roques. My sister Mariángel brought from Spain this awesome green ashtray that you can stick in the sand. Ashes and stubs went in there. Near us, in the tiny sand spot of Bajo Fabián, there were some italians, a guy from Norway, another one from Switzerland and his colombian wife. As soon as the saw the ashtray, those who had been smoking started picking the remainings of their cigarrettes and placing them in a trash bag. Welcome to paradise! Please help us keep it this way!
Luggage and bags:
Travel light! That´s the best way to travel! BUT... remember that in Los Roques National Park everything costs twice, three, four times more than anywhere else. So bring your own stuff...
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bathing suits, t-shirts (long sleeves t-shirts as well), shorts or bermudas, beach hats, bandanas, sun glasses, beach sandals, rubbery shoes for scuba or snorkeling purposes, hiking shoes or simple tennis shoes for walking up to the top of the mountain (where the light house barely stands). A pair of socks.
If you are a woman and you feel sexy, you must bring a couple of cotton-not-formal-beach-dresses to show (in the evening) your gorgeous tan.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring your own. Remember: lots of sun block creams and lotions, and mosquito repellent.
There is no big pharmacy at El Gran Roque. So dont forget all the pills you usually take at home. Stick to your medical treatment! People are so happy and so relaxed at Los Roques that, often, they forget to take their medicines. And that is bad. I know...
You find condoms, tampax and sanitary napkins. But is less expensive if you bring your own.
Photo Equipment: Bring your own film. It is so expensive at El Gran Roque! And dont forget to bring some of those afordable underwater cameras (like the ones Kodak sells; the take-the-picture-and-give-back-the-camera ones). You will have a ball taking pictures of you and your friends -forget the fish and the corals, those are great too- but people under water is much better. That is really fun: taking the pictures and seeing the results!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: In most of the "posadas" (guest houses) they will rent snorkeling apparels. But if you are too picky about it, bring your own.
Miscellaneous: For some reason, people look great -at Los Roques- if they wear YELLOW t-shirts. Remember: Yellow is the colour for an excelent contrast in all of the pictures.
Luggage and bags:
don't overpack: normally you're only allowed 10 kilos of luggage when boarding the little planes for Gran Roque
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: bring all the medicines you think you may need: you'll find very little on the island
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: a swimsuit, of course, and a towel. but especially bring high protection sunscreen (minimum factor 50) or you'll burn
