There are basically two companies flying to Los Roques from Caracas:Transaven is cheaper, 130000 Bs for a one way ticket. Planes are smaller and appear to be older. See the cactus in the picture? You can find it if you walk up one of the mountains in Gran Roque... No, you can't eat it, as far as I know - but it produces tiny little red fruits. At sunset the mountainside was full of local kids picking these fruits. We did not taste them - as we were unsure about how to eat them (raw? cooked?) - since the kids...more
The owners of the posadas will provide enough "equipment" for you to spend a day, in the middle of nowhere, in a just-for-your-self key.The important thing is to be most of the time in the shade. They will also give you cold drinks and food.In the picture, with my mother, I was receiving one of those"Do you miss me, honey, are you thinking about...more

Very expensive, these islands, if you want a nice room you have to pay 60 Dollars per person (only with fan) , otherwise you have to sleep in a hot dark room. The prices are risen 2-3 times since 2004 but not the service level. We felt the habitants are a bit unfriendly and halfhearted. It seems the locals can make enough money, so it doesnt matter...more

Always carry one along. You cant believe how trashy can humans be. My sister Mariángel loves to drink a "Polar" beer at the beach. And was does she do after she has finished? What does she do with the can? She places it in her trash bag. And 5 or 6 hours later, when the little boat comes for us, there is Mariángel picking up everybodies trash,...more
I hate cigarrette stubs and filters in the white sand of Los Roques. My sister Mariángel brought from Spain this awesome green ashtray that you can stick in the sand. Ashes and stubs went in there. Near us, in the tiny sand spot of Bajo Fabián, there were some italians, a guy from Norway, another one from Switzerland and his colombian wife. As...more
Took off from Caracas airport over to El Roque and spent the day. A catamaran took us to a few beaches and the water was warm and very inviting.
