 | Caracas Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 94 | | Enjoy a wonderful place El Hatillo, a peaceful, traditional town with streets filled with picturesque, multi-colored colonial houses a lot of nice outdoor cafe and restaurant and admire the antiques, flowers and crafts. In the plaza (plaza Bolibar) you can see during weekend many cultural events also you will see a lot of children playing and at night couples talking or just sitting and enjoying. In front of the Plaza is the Church if you will like to go. What I like most of the El Hatillo is that you can walk on the street safety during the day and during the night, the climate is very nice and have many options. I go a lot on Sundays Leave a Comment |
This beautiful plaza of the east of the city, well-known like Plaza Altamira, is it is a place were children and young people go to spend time, and also family in general during the week ends. You can seat to talk and to enjoy an ice cream, during weekend activities are organized so that the population can entertain itself and relax. In the middle of the plaza you find imposing obelisk, which is worth the trouble to admire. Advantages it is that you have the metro just there and bus station that connect with different places of Caracas. Also you will find several good, cheap hotels around. During a time this plaza was very emblematical since it was yields of politics disputes, the opponents to the government and military that were against the government take the plaza By almost a year, Always was crowded and was not very safe several tragedies happen there due to politic. Know it is very safe to be there :-) Leave a Comment Address: AltamiraDirections: Av. luis roche, estacion del metro Plaza Altamira |

La Iglesia de San Francisco (San Francisco church) was built in between 1745 adn 1887. Is one of the most beautiful churches in Venezuela; is one of the best examples of our local barroc art-architecture (which is not as superb and breathtaking as the mexican barroc style: churrigueresco; or the churches you can find in Peru or in Colombia). But Iglesia de San Francisco is my very favorite church and I´m very proud of it. It was declared "National Monument" because on October 14th, 1813, Simon Bolivar recieved the title of "General Captain of the Army of Venezuela" and was named: "El Libertador" (The Liberator). This took place in San Francisco, which is a couples of block from Bolivar's house. Leave a Comment Address: Av.Universidad, esquina de San FranciscoDirections: Closest metro station: Capitolio |
If you want to buy some authentic venezuelan craft, El Hatillo is the place to be. There are a lot of different stores, selling different things. There is one store that has it all. It's so big you could get lost in it! They have different areas in this place; things from the rain forest, kitchen things, clothing, statues, religious, hammocks... It's one of those places where you spend all afternoon, just touching everything... Besides shops there are also plenty of restaurants and bars. All these are located around a plaza with a statue of nobody less then Simon Bolivar. The shop and houses in the hatillo area are very colorfull, charming! Leave a Comment |
Great place to breath fresh air, have a beautiful view of the city of Caracas, and relax. These are one of my favorite places in Caracas, were you can escape of the city and relax your self with the nature. There are a lot of activities to do: ice ice-skating, visit the Humboldt Hotel, drinking hot chocolate and walk around to enjoy the landscapes. If you have kids, on the weekend are activities for them and a nice park, clowns etc. They can have fun!!!!!! You can take the TELEFERICO (Cable car) at Avila Magica. The ride it is of 15 min going up with the extraordinary view of Caracas and the mountain. The Caracas barrios are mostly located on the hills. It's not a very comfortable place to live in but it sure is an experience to walk aound there. It's not safe for a tourist though so the best you can do is drive through them. Be care full, the roads are bad and difficult to drive on, you could also easily get lost! I wouldn't advice it unless you are guided buy a local knowing his way in the barrio well. Leave a Comment |
In July, 27, 1989 they started building a huge mosk. Right now is one of the 2 biggest mosks in Latin America. Mosk, in Spanish is "mezquita". And this one is called "La Mezquita de Caracas". Very few people know it´s full name: Ibrahim Ibin Abdul Aziz Al-Ibrahim. It was built by the engenieer Zuheir Fayez for the muslim comunity. Up to 3.500 persons can gather inside. I´ve been to mosks in Turkey, but havent been able to visit this one. Is not that simple for a venezuelan-woman-christian. You have to ask for permission, have an appointment, wait. Two of my cousins (women) finally went. The had to wear something that covered them from head to toe (but I dont believe it was a "burka"). They were not allowed to walk around freely on the inside. They had to stay in an special area destinated to women. They said it was beautiful. It should be. The outside of the mosk is great. But what I like the most -about my country- is that very close by there is a huge sinagogue. Here we all live in harmony. Thank God. Any God. Thank God. This is an activity to do if you have a car or someone who knows the city driving you. There are several neighbourhoods where "the rich" live. You will feel like you're in Beverly Hills trying to get a glimps of the huge, gorgeous houses and expensive (sports) cars, dreaming away, wishing you were the inhabitant... Leave a Comment |
On a hot day, take the teleferico to get to the Avila Magica, it's pretty cool up there and you might get some rain so don't forget a sweater or jacket! There are plenty of activities for children like ice-skating, playground, live animation ect. For adults there is the beautiful vieuw over Caracas (all the way to the beach!) and live music, people dancing in the open air. You can have a quick bite at one of the stands or eat in a nice resto. All the way up, there is a hotel, which is the highest hotel in Caracas. You can never see the hole hotel because of the fog it's constantly surrounded by. This is a perfect place for a family outing! Leave a Comment |
