open shops

These were open carts on our Angel falls trip.
There were many different kinds of crafts and gifts.

What to buy: We found some really nice gifts. I picked up some hand painted glass scenes of margarita.

Picked up 6 paintings for around $10 , they were 4x6 or so in size and very nicely done.

What to pay: Again as with my tips from Costa rica, it all depends on what you want and are willing to spend....
Again you can barter....

Pearls

Margarita is well known for the pearls, which goes back centuries. You can see them already on the European paintings from the 16th century.
The best place where you can buy them is when visiting the mangrove (Laguna de la Restinga), you have there white and black pearls, costing practically nothing. It is a nice present to take home for your family and friends.

What to pay: Don't recall anymore, but realy cheap. When checked home at a jeweller, he said that what we paid was not a bad price.

Market, Porlamar

Go in the early morning! The market is covert with a roof and at noon it is more than 40°C ... you'll die there if you walk to long ;)
So go in the morning, because you can spend there at least 3-4hours!

An other tip! Don't go there if the President of venezuela is visiting the island! He is a Holy-men for them so all shops of the island are closed!

What to buy: souvenirs!!!! :)
you'll find there anything! from ski gloves to car radios!! (no joke!!)

What to pay: pay less than asked! but do know, it is already cheap, people are living in poverty! Do not go to hard on them...

In the center you find the main shopping area

What to buy: Most of the brands are for real over there.
They got fast food restaurants as well over there!

What to pay: Less than usual, but keep out for fraud
